Weird how I didn't see 15 posts here last year talking about how irresponsible and dangerous car drivers are...

It's a question of scale. Nearly everyone drives and the vast majority of drivers are fairly safe and not looking to cause accidents. Whereas among cyclists in DC, it really seems that more than 50 percent of them are entitled, reckless, and selfish jerks. People hate cyclists in DC because of their lived experience with them. They are by and large not good people.

This is an absurd statement. Your speaking from a biased position and is disgusting. I am an avid cyclist with thousands of miles on the road each year. Am I perfect - no, do I make mistakes sometimes trying to cut down time or move a little quicker - sure, do I follow every traffic law 100% - no. Do I try to be as safe and understanding of other people as much as possible - yes. Listen are there cyclists that are jerks - yes...I am sure there are...but that goes for anything including many people driving cars. The majority of cyclists you will never come in contact with or impact your daily routine in any way.

It's disgusting to say that people like you (by your own admission) put us in dangerous situations as pedestrians? I dont think so, buddy. What's disgusting is you willingly admit to breaking all of the rules and then dare to shame us for feeling unsafe around you. It DOES impact my daily life since I am a pedestrian in this city. That is the whole point. The best you can do is come back with a lame "but what about cars?"

How am I making it dangerous for you - I specifically said if for some reason I have to ride on a sidewalk I reduce my speed significantly so that any interaction with a pedestrian would be a nuisance rather than dangerous. If cyclists are speeding down a busy sidewalk going 15mph than they should be called out as that is unsafe. Everytime I ride my bike I could count 5-10 examples of cars breaking traffic laws but I don't come on here and generalize that all car drivers are maniacs.

Why do you keep talking about cars? This thread is about cyclists. I know you like to avoid any and all responsibility by pointing to cars but in here we are talking about your behavior. I have plenty of gripes about cars too, but that's not the topic here.

If you are breaking traffic laws and not stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks/redlights, etc. you are absolutely making it dangerous for me.

It was an example as you continue to generalize about cyclists overall just because of a few experiences you have had. If you have been put in real danger due to the actions of a cyclist then you have every right to criticize that person and call them out.

Buddy, I have DAILY experiences with cyclists. I cross the street outside of the Union Station at the G street entrance. Bicycles, electric bikes, and scooters are all flying down that hill at incredible speeds. It is a RARE occasion for any of them to even slow down much less stop for a ton of pedestrians who need to cross and have the right of way. Even more bizarrely, a lot of them have children on their bikes so it's not just my safety at risk here. So much to your shargin, I didn't base my opinion on a rare nothinburger. IT's a pervasive problem that I have to deal with every single day.

When you say you’re scared of bikes and all cars stop at stop signs, I know you’re motivated by irrational fixation on something that seems unusual and wrong to you - and not by a bona fide desire to improve the city. I know your type. You have personality disorders.

I don't give a shit about improving the city. I just want to get from point A to point B without being hit and injured.

Great so your main concern should be cars.

Can you deflect any harder? Start a thread about cars if you like. In this one we are talking about cyclists.

Lol there's a thread about a woman hit by TWO cars, and killed, of course, and it's getting no action. Because the car apologists are all here crapping on cyclists, who cause a teeny tiny fraction of roadway injuries, and almost never kill anyone at all.

Those are your feelings. You have big feelings, and that's ok. But when it comes to policy, you need to look at objective evidence. And the evidence does not support your feelings. I'm sorry.

Cyclists "objective evidence" is invariably absurd. It's always some study by a sociology professor at a fourth tier university who studied a neighborhood in Barcelona 25 years ago and found that drivers ignored stop signs 140 percent of the time.

Why bicyclists should be required to have license plates. It's ridiculous.

The risks bicyclists take with their children's lives constantly blow my mind.

Or, you know, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

No, seriously, look at the reports. They are embarrassing.

This problem is pervasive and while I champion people not using cars to commute or travel, this is ridiculous and needs to be addressed. Pedestrians need to have a way to walk down the street safely. No bikes on sidewalks, strict obedience when it comes to ALL traffic signs and issuing tickets to those who don't comply.

Who knows what happened. Did the woman walk out from between to cars and it was an accident or did the biker see her and hit her?

That’s not even the US. Not sure what you’re trying to accomplish with that.

If it happened like you said then why did he flee? And why would the police care about catching him if the only offense was fleeing?

There have been more people knocked unconscious by pedestrians this year, than by cyclists in the last decade.

Why aren't pedestrians required to wear license plates?

If a cyclist hits a pedestrian hard enough to knock them unconscious, then obviously they were going too fast.
