Like what's impractical? and punitive?

Can pedestrians have the sidewalks to get to where they need to go safely? Can we cross the street without being yelled at by people on bikes?

Cyclists don't think they should have to follow any rules whatsoever. And if anything ever goes wrong, it's always someone else's fault. They are like spoiled children.

Talk about spoiled children. You’re big mad that somebody chooses a different method of transportation than you do.

Nah, I'm mad that you don't stop at crosswalks or lights or stop signs and that you are constantly telling me to get out of your way when I'm on the sidewalk. I coudn't care less how you get from point A to point B.

Cars literally never stop at stop signs. You are especially mad at people on bikes for your own strange reasons.

You lose all credibility when you say dumb shit like that. I hope you know that.

Cars never stop at stop signs unless they are literally blocked by opposing traffic. Just sit and watch at an intersection.

And of course although a speeding bike can hurt a person (as here) cars are many many times more deadly.

The focus on bikes as especially bad is wholly irrational.

You sound like a complete nutjob.

I liike how the cyclists here don't condemn one of their own knocking a woman unconscious and then not even stopping to help her. They're just like "what about the people who drive cars?"

I know, right? And on top of that, try to tell a very obvious and blatant lie that "cars don't stop at stop signs." As if we are not all drivers and don't stop at stop signs regularly. And as if drivers don't get ticketed all the time if they do not stop. True madness.

Either you don’t know the meaning of the word “stop” or you have never spent any time in DC. A tiny fraction of vehicles come to the legally mandated stop at “Stop” signs in the city. If you don’t believe me, share your digits and we can get together to undertake a survey.

Dude, just give it up. No one is buying whatever BS you're selling.

Are you with a straight face claiming cars come to a complete stop for stop signs? Lololol. We all know that is false. Seriously stand outside and watch. I think drivers are so used to rolling through stop signs that they don’t even think they are doing it.

Weird how I didn't see 15 posts here last year talking about how irresponsible and dangerous car drivers are...

It's a question of scale. Nearly everyone drives and the vast majority of drivers are fairly safe and not looking to cause accidents. Whereas among cyclists in DC, it really seems that more than 50 percent of them are entitled, reckless, and selfish jerks. People hate cyclists in DC because of their lived experience with them. They are by and large not good people.

This is an absurd statement. Your speaking from a biased position and is disgusting. I am an avid cyclist with thousands of miles on the road each year. Am I perfect - no, do I make mistakes sometimes trying to cut down time or move a little quicker - sure, do I follow every traffic law 100% - no. Do I try to be as safe and understanding of other people as much as possible - yes. Listen are there cyclists that are jerks - yes...I am sure there are...but that goes for anything including many people driving cars. The majority of cyclists you will never come in contact with or impact your daily routine in any way.

It's disgusting to say that people like you (by your own admission) put us in dangerous situations as pedestrians? I dont think so, buddy. What's disgusting is you willingly admit to breaking all of the rules and then dare to shame us for feeling unsafe around you. It DOES impact my daily life since I am a pedestrian in this city. That is the whole point. The best you can do is come back with a lame "but what about cars?"

When you say you’re scared of bikes and all cars stop at stop signs, I know you’re motivated by irrational fixation on something that seems unusual and wrong to you - and not by a bona fide desire to improve the city. I know your type. You have personality disorders.

Oh you're the guy who claims no one stops at stop signs. Well that tracks. You lack some serious logical reasoning skills.

Just because you break all of the rules, doesn't mean the rest of us do. It's so typical of a cyclist to do everything wrong and still feel like he is in the right to yell at us because we don't like it.

Anyone with eyes knows that 1) cars are much more dangerous and 2) cars break as many if not more traffic laws than bikes. (PS - bikes are allowed by law to roll thru stop signs.)

No, we don't know that. You keep repeating that nonsense and it doesn't become any more true the next time you say it.

Falsely claiming cars do not stop at stop signs does not exempt bicycles from stopping at stop signs.

Are they also allowed by law to not stop at crosswalk for pedestrians or to blow through red lights? or to yell at pedestrians walking on the sidewalk. Again, you're trying a bit too hard to prove a point that does not exist.

How am I making it dangerous for you - I specifically said if for some reason I have to ride on a sidewalk I reduce my speed significantly so that any interaction with a pedestrian would be a nuisance rather than dangerous. If cyclists are speeding down a busy sidewalk going 15mph than they should be called out as that is unsafe. Everytime I ride my bike I could count 5-10 examples of cars breaking traffic laws but I don't come on here and generalize that all car drivers are maniacs.

Here is one study showing that only 35% of cars stop at stop signs. (I am surprised it is that high!) https://trforum.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/2012v51n3_07_StopControlledIntersections.pdf

Why do you keep talking about cars? This thread is about cyclists. I know you like to avoid any and all responsibility by pointing to cars but in here we are talking about your behavior. I have plenty of gripes about cars too, but that's not the topic here.

If you are breaking traffic laws and not stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks/redlights, etc. you are absolutely making it dangerous for me.

It was an example as you continue to generalize about cyclists overall just because of a few experiences you have had. If you have been put in real danger due to the actions of a cyclist then you have every right to criticize that person and call them out.

Of note:

Weird how I didn't see 15 posts here last year talking about how irresponsible and dangerous car drivers are...

It's a question of scale. Nearly everyone drives and the vast majority of drivers are fairly safe and not looking to cause accidents. Whereas among cyclists in DC, it really seems that more than 50 percent of them are entitled, reckless, and selfish jerks. People hate cyclists in DC because of their lived experience with them. They are by and large not good people.

Those are your feelings. You have big feelings, and that's ok. But when it comes to policy, you need to look at objective evidence. And the evidence does not support your feelings. I'm sorry.
