What happened at Yale?

She was a Chinese national and indicated she was a US citizen on app.
There may be legitimate espionage concerns.

I don’t see anything you said in the linked page, which is just anonymous forum comments.

They talked about this at the NACAC conference meeting in the Admissions Fraud session.

Yale Dean Lewis confirmed they will have a "new verification process" this year for applicants.

This is an article that interviews the student directly, who is from Northern California. It seems she forged all her transcript docs, and had planned to say she was from California when she got to Yale, but when she arrived, her dorm dorm had her name and hometown (North Dakota) and then she started getting tripped up in lies. And the automate turned her in.

It is paywalled but this is a link to the free article via archive.ph

Sounds like you stopped paying attention about 10 years ago, Yale's strength has always been humanities/social sciences but they are pouring gobs of money into STEM with gorgeous new facilities, tons of research opportunities etc. STEM kids are doing just fine there.

Is it not true that most Yalies find engineering too hard and stop pursuing it

Thanks for the link. This is pretty fascinating. Scammers find the weak link in the system. Makes you really question the whole college admissions framework.

Thanks for free article. This is a crazy story. The woman, who went to great lengths to fabricate and lie about who she is, is made at her suite mate who she accuses about lying about her. Make it make sense.

Whoa. That’s how desperate they were for someone from ND….

Bet there are others who slipped through the crack at other schools

Wait until "Katherina Lynn" creates a tech startup. She should never have left the Bay Area.

This is the article I was waiting for. Thanks for sharing!

Crazy story. Is fabrication and impersonation a crime? Wondering if people get away with stuff like that without penalties?

It is INSANE that this slipped past Yale admissions. Their AO for North Dakota is some Yale kid , class of 2024. Basically green with no experience. And the girl took a gap year when she didn't get into an Ivy the first time around? There are so many holes in this story - think of all the NYC, DC/VA kids who KILL themselves to get in, meanwhile this grifter forges a bunch of paperwork and is submitted with no issues? Why wouldn't the AO have ties to North Dakota high schools and vet the minimal number of ND applicants to Yale? Talk to the guidance counselors?

The roommate is also giving narc, but that's a different issue.

The roommate is smart and listened to her little voice. Would you want to share a bedroom with a stranger who is giving off those vibes?
