H1B application fees now cost $100k

Or you are all a bunch of losers which is why Trump slapped Stephen Miller and made his proclamation pointless. Trump could have done exactly what his proclamation said but soon as he found out his moron base might have to start coding he called his staff in to get h1bs exempt from the 100k. He even instructed CBP to offer formal apologies to all the h1bs that flew in on Sunday.

Y'all wanted a business man in office and you got one who knows which way to go regarding foreign labor. Can't wait until you all line up for your "manufacturing" job then find out all the supervisors are on L1 visas offering you $12/hr.

What shocked me was how prepared he was for college..this kid from a poor African country I never heard off had already taken the first 2 year core courses in calculus and physics while in HS. I went to a Top HS here in the US and only a handful of us actually took advanced calculus in HS....He ended up working for AT&T and then Goldman Sacks.

I think a lot us in this country underestimate how well prepared a lot of international students are.

No, no. No one is underestimating how advanced the rest of the world is in academic standards and influence now as compared to US. This whole country needs to be delulu otherwise they will have to face the shame that they have messed up their own future and their own country.

Accepting that the world is doing better than US means that Americans have to accept that they screwed themselves. Every policy is a policy of greed and bumbling half baked uneducated hateful racist and christian right wing fanaticism. And now MAGA. Americans know that they have voted for their own downfall. They need to be drinking the delulu koolaid or they will have to slit their wrists.

Well, the South Koreans are not coming back to get the Hyundai plant up and running. Bye Bye to 8000 jobs in Georgia, which would have helped US. So, there is no one to even train the ill-educated Americans.

BTW - are foreign powers paying US administration to destabilize US? Because Trump is doing such a good job of wrecking USA that even the ISIS terrorists are not targeting US. Why bother when incompetent and corrupt people at the highest offices of power are doing a better job of destroying USA?

Whose kid? What kid? Are these the children of unemployed tech folks in US, who were never at the top of their game and then got laid off several years ago? CS students who have not got job placements out of college are only 4% of all the CS new graduates. Even now, 96% of CS graduates are employed when they leave college. So those without jobs are either the bottom of their CS class, or they were depending on an amazing salary, or they have not applied far and wide enough, or they are not willing to work in smaller cities.

These poor performers are the ones who -
- a) felt the need to spend insane amount of money for a CS degree instead of having their tuition paid at a state school by earning generous merit scholarships.
- b) did not have the chops to learn the CS skills that companies need and fail in all the coding and personality tests/interviews.
- c) did not have tech or research internships in the summer breaks.
- d) are unable to be flexible learners and adapt to tech changes.

People who can shell out 400k are not concerned about their 22 year old playing video games. They don’t want just any job. I mean I have 2 openings for a whole year paying 170k and no one wants to apply except a few H1Bs.

And there was a kid in my college from south america who never went to class, partied in the city all the time and I'm pretty sure he transferred or failed out. So you can't generalize about american students or international ones. (and I was the poor kid who worked all the time and had great grades. You don't need to be from africa to be poor and not able to afford failing).

No it is weak because of Trump and his sycophants.

Read Project 2025 and get back to the rest of us with brains.

There is a reason the value of a $ is going down down down

Trump is doing exactly what the left was doing the last 4 years.

The extreme left wing is just as bad the extreme right wing, they just liked what was done the last 4 years but now the shoe is on the other foot, the left wing cries "Nazi" or "Racist". The MAGA right believes every single idiotic thing Trump says.

Yup. We’ve seen extreme left and right policy implementation last 10 years. This is what’s destroying the country across the board, economically and otherwise.

You sound extremely biased.

What measures are you using to determine that we’ve had our downfall and the rest of the world is more advanced?

Because it’s not by innovation, GDP, technologies, financial markets, unemployment rate etc… what are you using to determine your conclusion?

While it seems unfair, education alone doesn’t result in a strong and successful economy. Just look at the USSR. The Soviet Union had some very educated students and likely did better than Americans in math and science. But name me a successful Russian company that was known around the world. A more recent example is Finland. Highly educated populace and highly regarded educational system. Except a high unemployment rate and all sorts of economic woes.

Just because you want America to fail because of the current administration, doesn’t mean it will.

H1B1s are a major problem and thank goodness someone is doing something about it. Shame on you for thinking it’s okay for corporations to underpay workers at the expense of American jobs. How did we get to this point?

some humor to start the day!

As the Wall Street Journal recently reported, in India worshippers are flocking to the Chilkur Balaji Temple, better known as the "Visa Temple," to seek divine help in securing a U.S. work visa.

see -> https://www.wsj.com/world/visa-temple-india-balaji-trump-modi-5d17efd0

Priests bless passports, applicants walk 108 circles around an altar – and thousands believe the ritual offers a holy shortcut to Silicon Valley.

It would all sound like a satire piece, except it isn't. What's unfolding is a ritual economy wherein visas have become a kind of currency of faith.

This is obviously what they’ll do. In the long run, it will hurt us by moving the tech industry to other countries. Incredibly short sighted.

There are also a lot of other industries that have lots of H1Bs. There are over 10,000 doctors on H1Bs. 1% of the doctors in the US just went poof. You can’t replace a doctor overnight.

Oh they 100 percent are. My husband is a Parkinson's doctor and he is HB1

The gravy train for those Indians have slow way, way down after imposing the $100k fee for H1B.

Another piece of humor from SF airport. Panicked Indian flyers bound for india got off the plane when they learned that Trump imposed the $100k fee. They were worried that if they left the US, they would have to pay $100K to return to the US after 9/21.

Jokes on the stupid MAGAs who believe their conman. This EO is already getting watered down.

I am a-OK with Indian doctors not coming to US on H1B. Stay in India, work remotely and get paid in dollars.

So, no ACA, no doctors, no tylenol, no vaccines...in US?

Let America be for rich and college educated people only.

No biggie. It pales in comparison to Canada returning back 3 billion dollars worth of American Dairy products, Hyundai leaving Georgia, China not buying American corn and soybeans.miliated.

Also, most of these passengers were given credit by Emirates.

But, there are no refunds and credits when American corn and soybean gets rejected. Or tourists stop coming to US. Or International students stop coming to US. It is amusing to see Bill Gates and the Chinese buy up all the farms of impoverished American farmers because of this trade war.
