Serfs don't get an invitation, sorry. |
Not sure how I feel about the ballroom, but you do know it's not being paid for by taxpayers, right? Private donations are being used for this. |
Google is so hard to use, isn't it? https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-white-house-ballroom-donor-names/ |

I would think the White House would have a process for getting approval before ripping out parts of a building that's more than 100 years old and seeped in history.
But this is Trump. He doesn't care about laws or history; only what he wants. |
+1 How is it this easy to just demolish any part of the White House?? |
| Louis XIV wannabe, and yet not a king. Huh. |

FAFO: Trump kills major project backed by company donating $5 million to his White House ballroom
"A firm that cut millions of dollars in donations to President Donald Trump's plan for a massive new ballroom wing of the White House has suddenly found one of its flagship energy projects canceled by the Bureau of Land Management with no explanation." https://www.rawstory.com/trump-solar/# |
Apparently it's easy if you're a tyrant. He lied and said it would be adjacent to the White House. Unless people are out there stopping the cranes, it seems like he can build a tacky palace. |
Past presidents always gave deference to the White House Historical Society. For Trump/Miller/Vought, it's all about them and what they want. They don't care if they are supposed to be representing "the people" and are supposed to be stewards bridging a long past to the future. |
Bribes. Those “private funds” are bribes and extortion. Just like his library “donations”. |
|
I don't like Trump, but I don't think ball room is a bad idea. Most national palaces have a grand ballroom of some kind, and the East Room is too small. This is also one area where Trump's opulent sense of taste may suitable. |
The White House was purposely built without a grand ballroom. We're supposed to be a Democracy and the White House is the People's House, not the palace of a king. If Presidents weren't trying to cater to hundreds of donors, the rooms they have, that seat up to 250, would be plenty, as they were for hundreds of years. I think it's disgusting that he's using private funds for this. What do you think those people who've donated millions expect in return? Certainly something. |
| Even if the White House could use a space bigger than the East Room, Trump will fail us. It will turn out really gauche because Trump. |
It wasn't supposed to be a national palace. Trump's taste isn't opulent, it's gaudy. |
