Groceries are going insane

First, I think they rearranged it so it has fewer shelves.

Second, their coffee prices seem to have doubled.

Anybody else notice this?

Coffee was expected to go up. Stocked up in the spring

Coffee prices at Costco tripled thanks to tariffs.

Futures prices have about doubled since last year--tariffs are probably not the primary cause here.

Tariffs plus reduction in production due to climate shifts.

The only thing you can do is stop buying that expensive food or beverage item and train yourself to eat / drink something else.

Tariffs for Brazil coffee is at 50%, that kind of price increase on your biggest exporter is going to show up on retail price.

But... coffee is really not that expensive? Kirkland French Roast whole bean is under $10/lb. That's like $20/mo for most of us (assuming you and a spouse drink coffee and your kids don't). This is just not a budget-buster item and I suspect it's only being raised in this thread to make hay. Ground beef prices are probably a better example but since there is no tie in that price increase to the Trump election, just a slow ratcheting upward since the pandemic, it's not interesting to DCUM.

Ok well I just price checked my favorite mid-quality German coffee price in Germany and it's €15.80 for 500g. Consistent with what we are paying in the US for similar quality.

Yes, but Germany puts VAT and excise taxes on coffee and provides its citizens with good social services.

Well we put tariffs on things and give that to millionaire farmers.

I have 3 teenaged boys. The increase in beef prices are substantial. Literally I feel like everything costs double.

A dozen eggs is what, $5 now? Minimum wage is $12.41. About 20% of workers in Virginia earn less than $20 an hour. Imagine working for 30 minutes just to buy a dozen eggs.

It’s more than double Vs Pre Covid-19.
Ground beef for burgers was around $1.99 a pound and now around $4.99-5.99.

Beef is bad for them. Feed them something else!

a dozen eggs hasn’t been $5 in months-you can get 30 for $6. a dozen cost around $2 and some change. I mean if you only shop at sprouts or whole foods then yes a dozen will be $5-but not at regular places.

Beef is one of the best things you can feed a growing teenaged boy, especially if they play sports. I feel for anyone trying to feed three
teenaged boys in the current grocery economy.
