Kate gave half her dna to a future monarch, so in that sense, her health does matter. If she had a genetic predisposition to whatever cancer and that predisposition was passed down to George, it’s relevant to the public’s interest.
This is the struggle for modern a modern monarchy. |
This is really a reach. No, she doesn't have to disclose her DNA to nosy people who have no business knowing. This is no way relevant to the US public's interest. |
Maskless. So classy. |
And dangerous when you're hugging immunocompromised chemo patients. But hey, the pictures wouldn't have turned out as well. Even more classy was stopping to look wistfully up at the sign over the front door, as the cameras clicked, although she never used the front entrance when she was a private patient using one of the side entrances. |
It's not ALL paid for by the British taxpayer. Yes, there's an annual grant to royal household members. But much of it is also private wealth passed on through generations and free of inheritance tax, income from the duchies (subject of a notorious recent Channel 4 expose), and many other perks that effectively deprive HM Treasury of millions of pounds of revenue annually. That said, yes, some are content to watch Kate turn up every two months in a new Alexander McQueen coat dress in the latest shade of burgundy. But others expect something more in return for the income and tax bennies, something in the way of showing she cares. For example, she has maybe 20 patronages and rarely visited any of them, even before 2024. The Queen understood the need to be visible for the preservation of the monarchy, and Charles and Anne apparently got the message too. |
DP. There has been a lot of notice, and a lot of criticism, over the years of the "work ethic" of William and Kate, or lack thereof. But it seems to me that William has been forced to keep to the shadows by Charles. Very recently, he has really stepped forward, including some not-so-secret disagreements with Charles. Whether Kate also steps forward or remains behind, if William continues to act as very involved nearly-monarch, the criticism of Kate's "laziness" may fade. |
Remission doesn't mean much. My friend was in remission and died 3 years later from the same cancer. It usually comes back more resistant to treatment. Very sad. |
I hope this is not the case for Kate. But she does seem to have changed her priorities from earlier, when she, while considered "lazy', was clearly devoted 100% to the life of a public working royal. |
For optics, she probably should’ve masked. As far as being dangerous to patients, probably not. At least here in the US, you (typically) cannot receive chemotherapy if you’re neutropenic. A lot of chemo patients are unmasked these days during infusions - as well as nurses, doctors, etc. I think a lot of cancer centers have lifted mandatory mask restrictions. |
I’m really sorry about your friend. What type of cancer was it? I’m assuming your friend was Stage IV. I know several people who have been cancer free / no evidence of disease / in remission for 5, 10, 15, even 20 years! |
I know someone who died this week who was in remission from 2021-shortly before the 2024 holidays. Cancer is unpredictable, scary and sad. We have no idea what type of cancer Kate has or what remission may look like. |
William hasn't stepped forward at all and that hasn't gone unnoticed. He took most of last year off. His first engagement this year was just a day or two ago, when he went day drinking with some soccer fans after a conference, and that hasn't gone unnoticed either. He was supposed to do some tour of an air base today but cancelled it because bad weather would have prevented him doing some pr stunt involving a helicopter, even if he could have still met with the service people and their families as scheduled. |
I had a checkup today at the GW cancer clinic downtown. Everybody is required to wear a mask, no matter where they are in treatment, and there's a box of masks by the reception desk. |
I'm a cancer patient at the Mayo Clinic and most patients and providers in the infusion unit do not wear masks. |
I wonder if she’s going to give up some of her patronages since she’s not able to handle as much as before. |
