What’s going on at Wootton?

He told the Wootton PTSA too. Not just the Black and Brown Coalition.

He told the Black and Brown Coalition before he told the Wootton community. It is not necessarily a bad thing that it happened in this order. It is not good that the follow up with the Wootton community came much later.

There’s been a series of anti-Black incidents at Wootton that the principal, Doug Nelson, has not reported and failed to act on. There is an anti-Black culture that has been allowed to fester his leadership.

That’s how they’re connected.

At least one of the anti black incidents was carried out by a BLACK STUDENT! This is absolutely relevant and anyone inciting a race war over this needs to acknowledge it!

This does seem very relevant.

How long had he served as AP before becoming a principal intern?

A year and a half.
I doubt he will stay at Wooton for too long. He is ambitious and comes across as wanting to move up the ladder to the highest rung

Did the other Wootton parents who are claiming things were going swimmingly before see the latest email from Dr Bostic? It should be an eye opener that there’s already something to report. Thankfully it’s not racism or related but it’s typical of other student issue that have been ongoing. It’s really night and day with the transparency. We are going to see change for the better.

I'm pretty sure Bostic's first year as an AP at Northwood was the 2022-23 school year -- so 2.5 years.

Dear Wootton High School Staff, Students, and Families,

I apologize that this is my first formal communication to you, but in the spirit of transparency, I wanted to make you aware of a serious incident that occurred at Wootton yesterday afternoon.

I want to start off by thanking our security team for their support in addressing the situation. After lunch, two students engaged in a physical altercation, which resulted in one of the students sustaining an injury. Our investigation tells us that the fight was related to an ongoing issue between the two students. The altercation was witnessed by a group of students, who chose not to report it. Our security staff, as a part of their regular routines, recognized that an altercation was occurring and intervened immediately. Both students were given consequences in alignment with the MCPS Student Code of Conduct for their actions, and we will also be following up and assessing consequences for the students who encouraged the altercation. Fighting and encouraging others to engage in a fight are unacceptable at Wootton and in any MCPS school. This type of behavior will not be tolerated.

I will close by reminding everyone that they can anonymously report any school or student safety concerns, including mental health concerns, through the Maryland Center for School Safety's Safe Schools Tipline (1-833-MD-B-SAFE / 1-833-632-7233).

My son said that he's not going to fight anymore because Dr Bostic is coming.

Just read that the teacher who found the writing did not report the incident immediately:

Students and staff said the teacher is still working at Wootton. Does anyone know who is the teacher?

Honestly I don’t need a damn email for a 2 person fight. There were multiple fights a week at my high school growing up and the kids were suspended and emails were NEVER going out every 2 days.

We are raising a very coddled generation being raised by very over involved parents that are being entertained by a very over bloated central administration.

Since you and your colleagues are slow: https://wjla.com/news/local/maryland-montgomery-county-public-schools-mcps-wootton-high-principal-placed-on-leave-racial-slur-incident-parents-douglas-nelson-ptsa-black-and-brown-coalition-for-educational-equity-and-excellence-#

An anti-Black racial slur was found written on the desk of a Thomas S. Wootton High School student on December 3 according to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) officials.

This incident comes only seven months after another racist incident at the same high school. On May 15, a Wootton student printed the N-word 1,000 times on 1,000 pieces of paper.

That's two. The recent one that saw the n-word written on the desk after the student went to the bathroom, the May incident where a student printed the n-word 1,000 times.

1 + 1 = 2

Therefore there were two incidents within 12 months that Principal Doug Nelson failed to properly report and respond to. And that's why he got in trouble.

Got it now?

Really it's 1001 instances of hate speech.

Oh get real. And the kid who did the prints was black and it never left the printer. So let’s stop the anti-black agenda and the 1001 hate crimes.

And in that case it happened on a Wednesday, not reported by the staff member to the principal until Friday afternoon and the email went out on Monday saying they already identified the kid and they were handling the staff delay and the kid. So not sure how that was Nelson’s fault at all.

For the desk incident, a kid reported it. The teacher took a picture on their phone and then didn’t report it until the following day and Nelson reported it to CO the following day and sent an email out the next day. Supposedly he was grilling someone too hard on the incident and the kid’s parents complained.

Then the day of the cancelled pep rally an older sub in a class said the word when explaining the incident instead of saying n-word. That was on Friday afternoon and a student complained after the end of the school day. On Monday an email went out about that incident.

So in my opinion it seems that staff were more of an issue than the principal.

Yeah, a huge staff problem that teachers are reporting minor non-active misbehavior incidents within 48 hours instead of disrupting class or working overtime to coddle whiners.
