You realize not everyone wants to play in college or travel to PA every weekend. Right? For many, playing good soccer at HS and a 2nd club team is a great quality of life. And it’s possible. Not everywhere, but definitely a real thing. Not everyone is gunning for the athletics scholarship or the “privilege” of compromising their real career launch to spend 40 hours a week playing sportsball in college. Some kids just want to play in hs and play occasionally with other good kids in college while they, you know, focus on college stuff.

And that's fine.

But don't get confused that Club Soccer and High School soccer are very different things.

No D1 coach is traveling to watch Gonzaga or any "Number 1" team in the area. As coaches have expressed to me and I'm sure is well known, you can't gauge the level of a player who is playing against other HS team. They need to watch players play against other ECNL or MLS Next level kids. It makes sense! That's why college coaches focus on showcases and BIG tournaments so they can sit and watch top kids play against top kids over and over. Now who knows, there may be a local D1 coach that has something going on nearby and may pop in for a "big HS game", but I bet that is rare! With that said...I love HS soccer and every kid I know loves HS soccer and, for the record, I don't know of one kid that has made a local HS roster or at least has gotten any playing time and plays rec soccer. They are mostly ECNL, ECNL-R, EDP-D1 or D2, and NCSL D1 kids at the very least. You have to be a year round soccer player to make any HS team that I know of.

What about low end D3 schools? I know it’s bottom of the barrel but just asking for a friend.

D3 is the rec soccer of college world. No one cares.

Some of the best Starbucks baristas played D3 college soccer.

The topic of thread is quality of soccer played in high school. No one except you is talking about who developed players because it is irrelevant.
