I didn’t read that garbage book. But I would assume that as a kid who had a bit of a rough home life, he would actually be working starting at age 16. I certainly did starting at age 15 and I’m only a year older than Vance.

It’s been a while since I read his propaganda book — but the only job I remember him having was allegedly at a factory. Summer before boot camp maybe? The only reason he mentions it is because he uses the opportunity to dump on local white men. They were all racist, drug addicted, lazy, and frequent no shows, who mocked people who went to college.

In American society in general, it is remarkable if a teen has NOT had a low-paying summer job—and that cuts across classes. I’d be very surprised if any of the Trumps have ever had a menial job.

It does speak to her credibility. She has a tendency to make things up and shift according to the audience. This worked for her as a less prominent politician. This will not work as the most visible politician in the world. She cannot go around spinning yards and speaking in accents. It's undignified.

I agree with this to some point. That said, I’d be able to dredge up some old coworkers/managers etc who remembered me if I had resources and tried hard enough and cared enough to do so (I’m 47). Or even an old photo? Or friends vouching for her? My high school & college friends definitely knew where I worked and visited me at work at times. I wonder why she doesn’t do that- because it sure would make Trump look foolish (and would be a headline at least for a day).

I'm the PP, and I'm close in age to KH. It was very much the case for people of our age, but you're right--it's a bit less true now. Still, my 21 y.o., who is quite privileged in many ways, managed to work a food service job when in HS (during COVID, no less), as did many of her similarly privileged friends. But maybe that's just a public school thing.

While there are more immigrants working those jobs, there are plenty of teens working at food places, swimming pools, lawn care, construction apprentices, camp counselors etc.
