Why are Christians insisting the opening ceremony depicted The Last Supper when it really was the Feast of Dyonisus?

At least one Christian pastor seemed to figure out what really happened.

Reverend Benjamin Cremer, based in the US, shared a post on social media which dispelled the allegation that the controversial scene featuring drag queens was mocking Leonardo da Vinci's classic painting and therefore Christianity.

The post reads: 'It was a representation of the event called the Feast of Dionysus. Greek God of festivity and feasting and ritual and theater.'

It seems as if Christians are very invested in feeling persecuted and disrespected these days. Seems like some people are actually just riling up the base.

Sounds like producers trying to be clever and spin. It was very clearly intended to mock Christianity.

Can you tell me where this Blue Guy exists in the Bible? I mean, it's "very clearly intended to mock Christianity" so which book of the Bible talks about the Blue Guy?

Da Vinci was also gay.

Republicans want kids working in factories. Unless they're girls, then they want them in porn. Gawd bless this mess.

Republicans want to ban porn.

Imagine having this as a defense

Imagine thinking that’s bad. Porn shouldn’t be accessible on tablets and smartphones in this digital age where kids can easily access it.

So a 3000 year old Greek competition featuring athletes from 184 countries and literally thousands of religions had an opening ceremony designed to offend American Christians?

I'm beginning to think they WANT to be offended.

That's not the same as banning porn. Your skin would look better if you weren't stressed about arguments that no one is making.

So now the right is ok with “snowflakes” and “cancel culture”?

But no, it was not “clearly intended to mock Christianity.” France is full of Christians btw - they just haven’t been groomed by their media to find offense and persecution in everything.

Because despite everything they claim they have absolutely no clue what is actually in the Bible.... These are people who think everyone in the Bible is actually white. 🥴

Don't forget teaching about the Bible in public schools.

I actually wasn't outraged or deeply offended by it and I'm Catholic. But see my longer post at page 10, excerpt below - to share is a shorter post about my biggest issue with it.

The biggest problem I have with the whole fashion show/Dionysus Parody - or whatever parody they wanted to make it about. Why did they ALL have to be LGBTQ/drag queens? The Olympics at its core is all about bringing everyone together - regardless of politics, religion, color, etc....and this should include lifestyle! The Olympic Committee - whether intentional or not - royally and I mean big time screwed up in this regard. If this were a true parody of Dionysus and you wanted to truly be inclusive and appeal to the spirit of the Olympics - unity - then in reality there should have been representatives of all races, all genders (LGBTQ AND non-LGBTQ), participating in the parody. Had there been a woman dressed in period costume, a man wearing a toga, a drag queen, etc. we wouldn't be having this discussion. Also, the humongous gold halo on the center lady's head could have been a bit more understated because my mom said that was what made her think of the Last Supper - the in-your-face huge gold halo.

They want to be victims, then they b**ch when they're treated like victims. There's no winning! They want to skip the oppression and go straight to protected class. Line jumpers.

That’s the narcissism of American Christians for you.

It wasn’t just this scene. There were references to Christianity throughout the opening ceremony including a golden calf with worshippers around.

Is the calf about ancient agriculture and sculptures too?

It’s definitely not religious references. Everyone’s all making it up!!

It’s also interesting Christians get bashed when Muslims have also condemned this sad Olympics opening ceremony in large number . We know why your lot doesn’t bash Muslims.

It’s a global Olympics. France was just the host country. Nothing gets signed off without the Us’s approval.

I've thought that quite a few of the posts here are just ignorant, but then settled on this one as the ultimate in ignorance. Wow, just wow.

Let's do a simplified quick review of reality:
France is a country in Europe. The U.S. is a different country and is in North America. 204 Olympic Committees are represented in the Summer Olympics. The people of France have a government. The people of the U.S. have a different government. The people of all of those other countries have their own governments. France is the location of the Summer Olympics this year. France planned the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. France did not consult the governments of each of the 204 Olympic Committees represented to ensure that nobody was insulted. France chose to focus on French culture. Applying the messages as a direct insult to U.S. culture is ignorant. Assuming that the U.S. Democratic Party had anything to do with the ceremony is ignorant. Pushing the idea that it's the job of U.S. politicians to say something is ignorant. The French producers don't have to listen; they made their decision, they knew it was pushing the envelope, they did it anyway. Protesting now - especially those that won't watch the Olympics and support the athletes - is ignorant.

Not all drag queens are LGBTQ
