Are the non "W" schools really that bad?

A W school makes the news almost every year for a swastika graffiti incident. There's a lot of entitlement and affluenza in the peer group that overrides any potential benefit.

The worst was the W that was hading out n*word cards to the kids. It's just crazy disgusting.

Seriously? That happened over 5 years ago. My DD was there and has since graduated from college. Why bring it up now, just to smear the current student body?

Trust and believe these things are still going on. This was another school this year were kids were given out n*word permission slips/passes.

This. MCPS's priority is not excellence. It's closing the gap.

There are good non W schools. Seneca Valley is not one of them. Seneca is really really bad. Cannot wait to be out of there.

Alternative view: my kid just graduated from Seneca Valley, and it was a great experience. Too bad Dr. Cohen retired, because he was a good principal, but his replacement has done well too.

Not our experience at all.

The truth is most of these schools are remarkably similar. They have the same teachers, classes and curriculum. The only difference are some minor demographic variations.

It is crazy to think you have to go to a W school cluster. Your wife and in-laws are the epitome of why people don’t like Bethesda folk. That being said, find some neighborhoods that you like and then consider the schools carefully. While I think any MCPS high school would be ok, some school clusters are better than others.

With the low-diversity at the W's there's hardly any gap so they can actually teach whereas in the rest of the county it's all about the gap. They have to focus all their resoruces on the bottom 20%.

In schools with an obvious achievement gap, the kids are naturally separated by the classes they take (APs vs Honors or regular classes). Resources are not focused on one area.

The wife and in-laws view is truly outdated.
