God forbid good parents in Churchill. My kid for example needs 1,400 on SAT to get into school she wants. She studied on her own and only got to 1,300. The fact is nearly 100 percent of kids are paying for tutors for top schools no matter where the school location. And that is just T100 schools. But Churchill does crack me up my daughter only has a 4.8 weighted GPA and Only took 4 APs this semester and some friends have a 4.9 GPA and 5 APs. She might not make it into College Park with under a 1,400 on SAT. Yes it is that crazy not just W but what colleges want. Non Legacy, no athletes, non diversity, non first generations etc it is all grades and SAT/ACT scores. And even worse if a women. Lots of colleges need more men. |
Yas Qween! |
I do believe it's easier to get into UMCP with the same grades/scores if you graduate from Einstein than a W school, though. |
This "fact" is not a fact. |
The worst was the W that was hading out n*word cards to the kids. It's just crazy disgusting. |
Only because you are ranked against other applicants from your school and there's an even larger high-performing cohort at most W to make up for the lack of low-income students (poverty) found everywhere else in MCPS. |
This is probably true, but the extent of that advantage is hard to gauge. |
That was hilarious. |
+1 My Einstein grad got a 1580 on his SATs with no tutor and took lots of AP classes (don't remember how many) and got all 5s on them. DC is in grad school at HYP now. But sure Jan, he was disadvantaged not being with a strong cohort. |
You have no way of knowing whether that is true or not. |
Oooh poor baby! Might not get into the school she wants. She’ll never get over that. Pay out the a$$ PP to make sure that doesn’t happen! What an excellent parent you are! |
dp.. colleges don't want a huge % of students from the same area, let alone the same HS. So, a big fish in a small pond will have an advantage in college admissions over a medium fish in a big pond. I say this as someone who has a DC who went to RMIB, 1580 SAT score (no tutors, first try), 4.92 wgpa, 4.0 gpa, and DC got shut out of T20s. A student with those scores from a lower achieving school would more than likely have a better chance to get into a T20 than someone who goes to a school with a lot of high achieving students. |
Seriously? That happened over 5 years ago. My DD was there and has since graduated from college. Why bring it up now, just to smear the current student body? |

Buy in an area that enables you to send your kid to private schools.

Your Einstein grad might literally be an Einstein, kudos |
