Why not Dartmouth?

Dartmouth is too rural, too greek, too cold too small. BC was the right fit and she was awarded Presidential Scholarship to Business School.

Congrats! I have a child at BC. Absolutely loves it!

RD, no ED. Yes visited, 9/10.

As a Brit (living in the DC area) I’m fascinated by stoxbridge - in the UK it’s Oxbridge. Is he st for st Andrews? There are other universities in this second tier like Durham Bristol Edinburgh Exeter LSE … Do you know why they’re not appealing to Americans?

Durham: sounds like it’s in North Carolina

Bristol: sounds boring; a city few Americans know of

Edinburgh: you guys pronounce it wrong

Exeter: sounds like a prominent American prep school

LSE: Sounds like it teaches only one subject

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet

I'm actually surprised you got into VA Tech but got rejected from Clemson and Auburn. All good schools.

Choosing: University of Florida

Go Gators!

Curious why DC chose UF - that is an amazing list of schools to pick from!

NP (not the pp whose kid chose UF) but if I had that same list I’d either choose UF or Tulane. Love the vibes at both schools and both are excellent schools! UVA and W&M are great too but I’d want to get farther away from home.

Really? I would never chose the school of 35,000 kids over a smaller school.

Ok. I would

We think that that he signed up for Corps of Cadets really helped. He also applied TO where available. Auburn requires test scores and makes it explicit that they look at GPA, scores, and nothing else. Clemson (which he loved) was a toss-up, I wasn’t too surprised he didn’t get in.

I’m not. VA tech acceptance rate is around 57% whereas both auburn and Clemson only admit 43-44% of applicants.

Many large schools offer so many clubs and organizations (I think over 700 at UF) that students can easily find ways to make a large school feel smaller (if they want). However, the opposite is often not true (i.e. making a small school feel large).

Clemson is much lower than that, around 36 percent.

In exchange for a non residential campus where it’s difficult to get classes and at Florida in particular, many are prerecorded online. But your kid will have nice weather.

Case Western for my kid. Intended math major.
Accepted to UMD, Pitt, UMBC, and Emory
Rejected Brown, UChicago, WashU
1500, 4.0/4.9, many APs and IBs, all 5/7s.
Right now he’s a 3/10 on enthusiasm. Definitely not where he wanted to go. He’s a positive kid by nature, so hoping to generate some excitement over the next few months.

If he doesn’t want to attend Case, it looks like he has other excellent options.
