Case Western

Accepted: Denison, Virginia Tech, VCU
Waitlisted: William & Mary
Rejected: UVA, Rochester, Emory

Accepted to UMD, Pitt, UMBC, and Emory
Rejected Brown, UChicago, WashU
1500, 4.0/4.9, many APs and IBs, all 5/7s.
Right now he’s a 3/10 on enthusiasm. Definitely not where he wanted to go. He’s a positive kid by nature, so hoping to generate some excitement over the next few months.

I hope he gets excited about Case!

We don't get need-based because our assets are a hair too high, so we're going to be trying to get a list of merit aid schools together soon. Our high schoolers so far have 4.0s but no huge national awards.

Agree and also thank you to everyone for bringing some sense of what to expect.

And for keeping it positive!!

Our kid hasn’t decided yet (can’t attend all admitted student stuff until end of month) but received merit at Case, Lehigh (trustee’s scholarship for half tuition), Fordham and Pitt.

Such different schools! Pittsburgh, Cleveland and obviously NYC are such great cities!

RD, no ED. Yes visited, 9/10.

As a Brit (living in the DC area) I’m fascinated by stoxbridge - in the UK it’s Oxbridge. Is he st for st Andrews? There are other universities in this second tier like Durham Bristol Edinburgh Exeter LSE … Do you know why they’re not appealing to Americans?

It’s the StOxBridge boosters at it again. I swear they’re also the William
&Mary boosters as well because of the joint StA programme. Tiresome bats

Curious why he chose Case from his accepted list if he’s a 3/10. Not challenging decision but just visited Case over Spring Break and I’d say it’s a very specific school for a very specific set of kids. If your kid is a Case kid then it’ll all work out.

Thanks to those of you sharing stats and details. Very helpful for those of us with kids applying next year.

It is his least bad option (in his mind). His dream was Brown. Wants to get out of MD, so UMD and UMBC are pretty much out. Emory is too expensive. He thought Pitt was too urban, and the Honors College didn’t sound like it would really deliver anything different. So Case is what’s left.

You should go on reddit, college confidential and even search this board for reasons why Case Western is awesome. Then, use that information to hype up the school for your kid (and possibly for yourself). I know that it is hard both for the kid and parent when the kid's dream school didn't materialize. Case is supposed to be a wonderful school so there should be lot of positive information out there for you.

Curious why DC chose UF - that is an amazing list of schools to pick from!

NP (not the pp whose kid chose UF) but if I had that same list I’d either choose UF or Tulane. Love the vibes at both schools and both are excellent schools! UVA and W&M are great too but I’d want to get farther away from home.

Really? I would never chose the school of 35,000 kids over a smaller school.

Ok. I would

So would my kid. He doesn’t want small.

Same - I think a large school just opens up a lot more choices and opportunities to explore interests and find people with whom they have things in common with.

+2 Same here. I will never understand posters who think everyone should want what they want.

Enrolling at Virginia Tech
Accepted at LSU, Towson, JMU, U of Colorado-Boulder, Drexel, UMD, and Baylor
Rejected from Clemson, UF, Auburn and Texas A&M

I'm actually surprised

you got into VA Tech but got rejected from Clemson and Auburn. All good schools.

I’m not. VA tech acceptance rate is around 57% whereas both auburn and Clemson only admit 43-44% of applicants.

Clemson is much lower than that, around 36 percent.

No, it's 43%.
