BOE election candidates 2024

Anonymous
Sleepy Elrich and the county council need to step it up! Rid of the Board. At the upcoming Thursday meeting, Council should be asking the BOE hard questions holding them accountable, including how our $ is going for legal when it should be spent on the schools and our students!

Smondrowski and Harris are running. Evans has not filed yet. The rest are not up for reelection this year.

Thanks. I’m surprised anyone would want that job.

Maybe Laura Stuart is running because Evans doesn’t intend to.

Laura Stewart is a BOE insider — basically an incumbent. It wouldn’t surprise me if she filed because she knows that Evans isn’t running again.

I don't have a problem with that.

None of the incumbents have filed yet.

Candidate filing ends Tuesday, February 09, 2024, at 9:00 p.m.

Are there any incumbents worth voting for?

+1. Who exactly are the incumbents worth voting for???!!!

No problem here either but it shows how much of an insider she is.

This year, we can get a maximum of three new people. And even that is unlikely.

The ones up for relection are running unopposed as of now. More of the same old. Deadline to file is fast approaching. Let's see some of you on here try to do the unwanted job!

I think Julie Yang and Grace Rivera-Oven are decent. As freshmen board members, they've asked the best questions of MCPS, in my opinion.

Lynne Harris is smart. But she's only really focused on LGBTQ representation and environmental stuff. If you want more of that, vote for her.

What? Lynne Harris is up for reelection and she has several opponents: https://elections.maryland.gov/elections/2024/Primary_candidates/gen_cand_lists_2024_2_by_county_14.html

Smondrowski is, currently, unopposed. That much is true.

Lynn and Laura are exactly what's wrong with MCPS. If you like the direction the school system has been heading in the past 10 years, vote for both of them. If not, vote for anyone else.

Sorry, but the 'anyone else' has to actually be worthy of voting for on their own merits. Most of the candidates who challenge incumbents have not been.

Id take 2 randos off the street over Lynn and Laura. They are far-left activists whose policies are detrimental to MCPS.

Laura and Lynn have done more for kids in this county than any of the Anonymous posters on this board. I've known both for over a decade and have not always agreed with either, but I respect the work they've done.

Lynn has pushed back on MCPS staff more than any other board member (although Rebecca is a close second), and it's the MCPS staff that are the problem. When an important issue comes up, it gets scheduled for 30 minutes of discussion, and then the MCPS staff take 20 minutes presenting, leaving only 10 minutes for discussion. And when asked a question, the MCPS staff blah, blah, blah without acrually answering the question.

And I suspect Laura is as disgusted with what has recently taken place (cover up + finally resignation), and that is likely why she is finally throwing her hat in the ring. I will enthusiastically and happily vote for both of these ladies.

Nobody not a single one. They all voted to put in McKnight even after they were warned by the unions, staff, executive staff leaving in droves.

Pushed back? LOL
The BOE is in charge. They aren’t victims.

Are you going to step forward and challenge one of them?
