Holiday gifts for tweens and teens 2023

This thread has been....eye opening. I had no idea people spoiled their children so much. My 8 and 10 year olds just asked for a Barbie Dreamhouse and we're not getting it because it's too expensive. I don't belong here, LOL

Well it’s a teen and tween thread, they like more expensive things and not Barbies anymore. You belong on the elementary forum for toy ideas.

Does he like shoes? New Balance 574 are popular. Abercrombie makes great hoodies- https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/oversized-essential-colorblock-popover-hoodie-46732320?seq=36&source=googleshopping.

Second that I used to be like you but a tween or teen does not want toys. They want electonics, skincare and experiences.

So what ARE you buying your 8 year old, and do you really think that is still what you will be buying her when she is 16?

Regarding the lip balm from Summer Fridays...looks like they are $24/each. Are they really worth it?
Summer Fridays is currently having a 20% off sale now...so that makes them just under $20. Is that probably the best price I'm going to find (won't go on sale any lower on black friday/cyber monday?)

FWIW, I'm the poster that's buying gifts for a teen I selected through an organization. She hasn't specifically asked for this, just "makeup" in general.

You are missing out - hand/foot massagers are awesome - esp the ones with heat. We had a foot one and DD loved it thus thinking hand cause it's cheaper and we can use it too! It's an experience - it's also not going to get used up like make up! Goes with the spa/relaxation theme.

I am taking my teen and his best friend to NYC for the holidays. This is instead of throwing a big bday party.

IMO yes. I have one and you only need a small amount so it will last forever. Tbh, $20 for a lip product is honestly not that expensive. If it is a splurge for you, I still think Christmas is the ok time for lipgloss splurges if that’s what your kid asked for specifically.

Oh just saw it’s for a kid who didn’t ask for it specifically - maybe do the elf lip glow oil in that case

Thanks! I'm going to go ahead and get it for her!
I remember a long time ago (literally decades ago) I was reading some magazine article (probably in Glamour or Mademoiselle or something like that) about when to scrimp and when to splurge-and the article recommended splurging on lipsticks. It said something along the lines of "No one will see what shampoo bottle is in your shower, but they'll notice what lipstick you pull out of your purse." For some reason that's just always stuck in my mind...and when I think of a teen girl that wants to have the nice things that other girls have, it seems to fit.

I would say yes. My kids have this high up on their list. So if it’s on sale, go for it. Mine wanted the kit of mini sizes, which was sold out when I last looked.

"Is it worth it". It doesn't matter, its a gift! Do you want scientific evidence that the results are worth the cost?
