Agree. Count yourself very lucky to have moved on before this program took off. We don't really have mental hospitals anymore. Even CA has changed the law re: involuntary commitment and Newsome signed it. DC needs to adopt best practices. |
You think.. What do the people you voted for think? |
| I generally loathe guns and don’t own them. But increasingly I wonder if the way to get a handle on crime in DC is if more law abiding citizens, taxi drivers, Uber drivers carried pistols with a reasonable DC stand your ground law to protect them if the are mugged, car jacked, etc. The predators might think twice before preying on others. |
Oh come on. Matt Frumin doesn't want to put people in apartments here who are violent. Quit insinuating that. Just because someone has a criminal record doesn't mean that they will be a repeat offender. |
He cares more about criminals than law-abiding taxpayers. He’s made that crystal clear. You get what you vote for. |
Frumin is still worshipping at the alter of “welcoming”, “inclusion” and “tolerance.” I’d love to hear him say that we are not going to tolerate an increase in violent crime in his ward and do not wish to welcome violent criminals and unstable individuals to commit crimes and create mayhem in our neighborhoods. |
No he hasn't. He has said that he's not for canceling or throttling back on the vouch program - which does help many, many, many families- because a few bad apples are operating within it and causing shit like this. That's a reasonable position to take. |
The program is badly mismanaged from both a financial and safety perspective. He is placing the interests of others over the interests of his constituents. There is nothing reasonable with daytime shootings, savings, and car jackings in a once quiet part of town. |
Okay, but why punish the many who benefit from it by pausing or stopping the entire program?? Oh right, because any excuse to maintain exclusivity in this area is sought after and embraced quickly. |

The Washington Post has documented multiple times these programs bring a large increase in crimes. People have listed numerous violent crimes in this area in just the past month that would have been considered shocking a decade ago. If you know anyone who lives in these buildings, you'll know how people are living because violent criminals are assaulting long-time residents. When you pretend that this is simply about "exclusivity," you're demonstrating you don't care about the issue at all. You're also demonstrating your ignorance of the area - these apartments were never exclusive, and until the city started filling them with violent criminals they were a way for people who earned less income to live in areas that were otherwise unaffordable. |
Only two of those are known to involve people who are living in the area here. |
Oh, so 28% of the violent crime (and probably more) is tied to voucher recipients? |
How many people are in the area because of vouchers? A few thousand. How many of them are complicit in these crimes? Single digits. You want to send them all back to ward 7 and 8 and wreck their futures.l because of a few bad actors. F that. |
Dog whistle dog whistle!!! It's not tied to voucher recipients. Most voucher recipients are just trying to get by. It's tied to a few people who need to be apprehended, and - important here - actually prosecuted. |
