If I host a party in my DC suburb there are going to be a lot more POC than if I host a party of friends and acquaintances who just happen to be in a random, remote town in the mountains in the summer. I highly doubt that motley crew all flew in for the dinner or coordinated vacation plans - they just happen to be at the same resort.

Yes. No locals were there.

I live in a wealthy neighborhood that’s 99% white. Everyone talks a big game and the DE&I actions at the local schools are heavily supported.

But start bussing in minority children or have some AAs move into the neighborhood and you’d start seeing a large number of for sale signs in yards. It’s all talk. Everyone wants to support diversity but wealthy white don’t want to live around increased crime, single parent homes or lower educational standards.

Bussing is a whole different animal - neither side likes bussing - I was there.

That wasn’t my point. My point was that wealthy whites don’t want their kids going to school with poor minority kids. This is pretty much universal across the US.

Your post assumes minority = poor, so I guess you are making your point even more clearly than you think.

Not sure if the above is true or not.

Funny how nobody is calling out Jimmy Kimmel. Even though it's been pointed out several times it's his party and she was a guest. Why is that?

Maybe for the above reason? It might appear to some as possibly hypocritical coming from her??

Guys! guys! guise took three tries to get it to spell correctly when using dictation!

I am going to need one of you dictation posters to do an AMA at some point. Like you’re just saying responses out loud to your phone where people can hear you? DCUM is not your secret shame?

Anyone who feels so compelled to respond to DCUM posts that they have to dictate responses is . . . well, something.

Doesn't everyone use dictation nowadays?

Anyone so compelled that they'd waste time typing out a response is ... something

The people I know who use dictation have carpal tunnel syndrome/chronic tendonitis.

“As for why Elizabeth sported such an unnatural appearance, it was a result of her coming down with smallpox in 1562. Elizabeth nearly died from the disease, and her skin was scarred from the illness, so she covered the pockmarks with heavy white makeup made of white lead and vinegar, which slowly poisoned her over time.”

Since a poster upthread is questioning it.

Much like the time Biden said “Poor children are just as smart as white children”?

No.

Well all the white super liberals are going to claim otherwise. They are making, as always, a mountain out of a mole hill

I wasn’t aware that all photos much show diversity.

It's ok. Everyone knows why your entire family is white.

Who asks for a guest list before agreeing to go to a party? Don't be ridiculous. And her children weren't even there.

So all the celebs flew to IDAHO? For an outside party??

Wow - racist much? Why in the world would you assume wealthy AAs moving into a neighborhood (who are, presumably, the ones who could afford to move into a wealthy neighborhood) would lead to increased crime, single parent homes, or lower educational standards. Ick.

The book is not "purple." It's titled "The World Needs More Purple People." It's a children's book. At least be accurate with one part of your post, please.

And how is she supposed to make a point of surrounding herself with diversity when she is the guest and not the host? Should she, should we all, insist that hosts give us guest lists to inspect before we condescend to attend events, so we are not exposed to (gasp!) a less that perfectly diverse group at someone else's event? (Not that I'm blaming the host. I just don't get what any guest is supposed to do in this circumstance, according to those of you so enlightened that you feel you can criticize who people's friends are.)

Oh, yeah, and this, a point worth making again though it was made earlier: The Asian people present at this event do not count as diversity to you--??
