I agree. They don't want people who make assumptions about other people without having the information to back it up (surprise!) OP, your DC really does sound like a leader. I am sorry this is happening to you. |
Because in these current times everything becomes about race. And often when race is brought up it will shift the discussion, which for some is the goal. |
Hook can also be URM. DEI is big at all schools. |
That is quite an assumption on your part! WOW. |
So do a hundred thousand other kids who want the same spots. What does your kid offer beyond the stats? THAT is what the colleges are looking at. Period. |
I’m not making assumptions about anyone, but keep throwing that work around. “If someone has the stats, they are qualified” is not true and never has been. |
You are saying that all the DEI URMs have the stats necessary for their school? And it is not my kid we are talking about - it is OP's. Get it right. |
In your alternate reality, sure, whatever you say. Fool. |
There is no such thing as “stats necessary for the school.” |
Because people think that only qualified people should get into top schools? |
Are you saying they don't? |
What they are qualified for is to be seriously considered for a spot at a "T10" school. But again, there are hundreds of thousands of other 4.0 UW, 1530+ kids who have varsity letters, lead in theater, or top musicians or great internships, or gritty stories to add to the student population. The fact is, there are not enough seats at these top schools to take every kid who is qualified. But to suggest that there are kids who are not qualified getting these seats at the expense of "your" kid is plain stupid. |
+1 This is the truth, unfortunately. The school name on the resume does matter. There are always exceptions and undoubtedly someone will post soon to claim that their company does not care in their hiring but overall it does matter. It is the same at Thanksgiving dinner when family and friends have gathered and the conversation turns to how senior Sally had a great start at Harvard. Then someone else rightfully pipes up that cousin Sue also had a great start at their 150+ ranked college. Everyone will smile and nod approvingly, but inwardly most (all?) will be way more impressed with the Harvard attendee. Just human nature. It does matter. |
Most do not. Look it up. If you know how. |
For what...for Harvard? For MIT? That is nonsense they reject thousands with stats just like that every year. |
