Social media bragging

Neither of my kids play basketball, but I'll watch the youth highlights from friends, or even go to the HS games.

My DS plays tackle football. And people without kids in football will take an interest and comment on his videos or the outcome of his game.

But swimming? GTFO. Nobody cares

The funniest thing about this is that, while insulting parents who post videos of their kids swimming, you simultaneously tell people - not sarcastically - that you post your son’s football videos (GTFO, who plays football anymore?!) and actually think people GAF about that. Didn’t major in logic in college, I see.

I was PP that posted that nobody cares about swimming (and I stand by it)

But I wasn't saying not to post the video. Post away! Brag about your kids. Just dont get upset with your neighbors video of their kid scoring a touchdown gets more engagement

As for grandparents, if they're on social media to see it, they can also read a text or an email about it. Grow up.

so I would've said it nicer, but for the most part this is true. No one cares about your little league posts. If it's for family, create a family group chat.
If your kid made it to some national level competition (or international/olympics), the general public may care. Outside of that, it just seems ..... sad.

But honestly, what is the point of social media?

Bc I sure as hell don't care about the political posts people share? Or the pics of their food at some fancy restaurant? Or a pic of their dog on the couch napping?

But when I see those posts, I just scroll by. I don't judge. Or even worse, create some obnoxious thread on DCUM about it.

Also, you're wrong when you say "nobody cares" As PLENTY of people have chimed in, they do care to see and celebrate the athletic accomplishments of their friend's kids. It's not that nobody cares, its that YOU don't care. Which is fine. But you're very wrong that nobody cares. Many people do

Also, FYI: tackle football is still one of the most popular youth sports (especially team sport) in America. And, early signs are showing an increase in participation post-COVID.

I know you're response will be something like "stupid americans in the flyover states", but you should understand how popular the sport really is, and how your bubble may be impacting your perception

Well ok then why is it ok to post about football but not swim? And also, again, why does anyone care what others post? Scroll along if you don't like it.

This post isn’t about the popularity (or not) of various kids’ sports. It’s about whether non family members want to see your posts on SM bragging about your kids’ accomplishments on a semi-frequent basis. I assure you, no one wants to see braggy posts about your kid’s accomplishments except in a very infrequent basis. As hard as they may be to believe, it’s true even if it involves tackle football.

You’re insane if you think people care more about one sport over another in SM posts. I think certain sports are more interesting to watch but I give no real attention to any kid focused sports SM posts, even those involving your football playing kid.

The only loser is you, a judgmental hag who gets her panties in a bunch over SM posts. How fragile can you be? It must be hard, and more than a little sad, to go through life being so utterly miserable. You can't be happy, much less civil, so you come on here like some raging, hot mess of judgment. Sad.

You’re just an insecure rat

This. Hopefully your kids get their kindness elsewhere.

The amount of people suffering from main character syndrome is ridiculous. you're insane if you think the rest of the world doesnt watch youth athletic highlights simply because you don't.

People absolutely do and there is ata to back it up.

the highlights of my DS playing football get 20x the views of my other DS on archery or my DD on track. But my DD's softball highlights gets 10x the views of her track highlights.

But at the end of the day, I don't care. I still post and share them bc I know people are interested in seeing my kid's successes, just as I am interested in seeing, sharing in, and celebrating their kid's successes

I think an end of season post or post about a team winning a tournament or championship is fine, but some people are ridiculous with the weekly posts. I don’t care that your kid scored 3 goals in their lacrosse game, had two touchdowns in their flag football game this week, and 12 points in their bball game. We get it that your kid is a good athlete. No need to remind us and post game highlights every. single. week. These same parents faux complain about how they are oh so tired and busy running from one sporting event to the next all weekend. Like it’s a badge of honor that you signed your kid up for too many things at one time.

There’s a lot less of this once kids hit puberty, I think. Some of the kids who excel early lose their advantage and all of a sudden the parents aren’t posting too much anymore. The kids probably also ask them to knock it off.

I was a swimmer growing up and my parents knew nothing about my times or anything. My mom said some parents had notebooks where they would be writing down their kids’ times at meets. Those are the type of people now writing long braggy posts and including Meet Mobile screenshots. 20 years later some of the crazy parents still can’t let go of their kids’ glory days (I see their FB comments on their adult children’s’ posts, as I am FB friends with lots of people I grew up swimming with). Pretty pathetic.

Here's my question. All the people opposed to these posts keep saying "they are necessary" or "there's no need"

Well, yeah. There's also no need to post a beach selfie from vacation. That picture of your dog? totally unnecessary.

the entire social media platform is unnecessary.

That can't be your actual issue with it

Lady, you obviously care if you’re tracking the views of the highlights you post on SM.

NP. Yes, that's what she said. She's saying that people (like her) DO care, so the person she is quoting who says no one cares is wrong. Nowhere did she say she didn't care. You seem confused.

The rest of the world watches youth athletic highlights? Data, please. Exclude all family members, other teens (I’d go to football games but never watch the games), employees, etc. strangers to everyone involved…who is watching youth football?
