Virginia couple sued by Afghan refugees of crazy scheme to kidnap their baby

Anonymous
In 2019 when the Masts went to court in Palymra, VA to petition for custody/adoption the population there was estimated at 92 people. THAT’S IT.

Fluvanna County has estimated population of 27,000.

Everything is super small. They had to know the judge.

Her parents live in Texas. She needs to be sent back to them. Shame on you.

Here is the Times' version of the story. Just heartbreaking. This needs to be rectified. The Masts are monsters.

And this is exactly the question to ask: ‘How Did This Man Think He Had the Right to Adopt This Baby?’

I really wonder what the US filed under seal.

This is not human trafficking. Using the wrong words just makes people ignore both issues.

That is exactly what it is. You can't pay to fly someone out on a pretense and steal the baby they are the guardian of. How would you like it if I met you in NYC and did the same?

If you really understood the horrors of human trafficking, you wouldn't be making these comparisons. Kidnapping maybe, but not human trafficking.

This is literally the definition of human trafficking. And it’s plenty horrific.

Do you have some narrower definition that only involved sexual exploitation? If so, educate yourself.

Yes, because going through the court system to obtain an orphaned infant is exactly the same as the horrors that many go through when part of a trafficking operations. You're being willfully ignorant. Must be nice to go through life that clueless....

If someone went through the court system and lied to kidnap your child, you'd be OK, because that's not bad like human trafficking? Or are you assuming that because the baby was adopted the parents didn't care that much?

What on earth are you talking about? This was fraud, illegal baby-knapping. Not human trafficking. Saying that something is not trafficking doesn't mean that it's okay.

"GENEVA (29 September 2022) – Illegal intercountry adoptions may violate the prohibition of abduction, sale of or trafficking in children and the prohibition of enforced disappearances, a group of UN rights experts said today, urging States to take action to prevent and eradicate such illicit practices." https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2022/09/illegal-intercountry-adoptions-must-be-prevented-and-eliminated-un-experts

The thing that makes it trafficking is financial profit. The Masts seem to be trying to do just that with speaking tours. This is 100% human trafficking and they deserve the same penalties as anyone else who traffics children. I hope the foster parent their other kids end up with is not Christian and can deprogram them.

If that little girl was going to be a victim of female genital mutilation, they DID do the right thing.

what!! the afghan couple is ..afghan..not East African?? what the actual hell!

Because being raised by right-wing, uber conservative, evangelical Christians, who went to Liberty for undergrad and for law school, who claim all muslims are terrorists and think all afghanis raise their daughters to be either 1) suicide bombers, 2) child soldiers or 3) sex slaves is better. Versus being raised by your cousin and his wife, in America, surrounded by your culture, language, family.

GTFOH with your bigotry.

Why would they want an Afghani child if they are this racist?

Many of these people only want white kids. This is the closest to white they can get. It was quick/easier than a real adoption or there was another reason why they couldn't adopt. I know several shady situations like this and when families fought it the courts sided with the kidnappers.

Of course they do, that's perfectly natural. Wanting a baby that is the same as you is fine, not an indictment, as you're saying.

It is an indictment.

Those criminals wanted a baby girl. Period. They were only able to make boys-note they have 4 bio boys. Mix it up with their brand righteous Christianity that sees adoption as "saving" a soul & this is what you get. Entitled, corrupt, illegal behavior. Truly despicable.

I’m sure the Masts believe they are, because they’re white, American, evangelical Christians who have claimed that the baby would be in inherent danger to be raised by Muslim Afghani relatives who would likely make her “a child soldier or sex slave”. The xenophobia, among other things, is incredible.

MHiw did the court approve this? Trump-appointed?

Yes, international adoption requires state dept involvement, visas, etc.

Very fishy.

And the marine probably thought he would be portrayed as some savior. If he really cared about the baby, he would have brought her and her new (afghan) parents here, and helped settle them as an intact family.

Do they really think that? It's hard to imagine

Well, if you think Americans are superior . Christianity is the only true religion. Etc etc

The guy should be in jail. Instead, it sounds like he is in our payroll

FYI, Muslims believe that, it's why non-Muslims are not allowed to adopt Muslim babies. It's not a strange or terrible belief. These people are the problem. Focus on them.

The Muslims in this story aren't the ones who stole a baby. Check your prejudices.
