Worked where?

You would be an idiot to choose UVA over Georgetown.

OP, do your research so you can stop posting these absurd posts.

This is such a stupid cliche. I have to kids there from Va and they have met tons of people from outside Va and don’t hang out with any of the 10 people in their class from their high school. Don’t even see them ever.

It’s not high school 2.0, that’s VT or JMU

Um - 40 kids from DDs HS go to UVa with her.

name the school. Other than TJ this didn't happen

DP here. UVA is known as (any Northern Virginia high school here) 2.0. It is no secret.

I think you need to get out of your bubble. There are alot of schools in NoVA and you do not know all of them. I am also in NoVA and in my DC's graduating HS class, there are 10 who attend UVA (of approx 400 grads). 10 out of a class of 4000+ does not make it "high school 2.0".

Is it because of cost?

Sorry, I meant to say you would be an idiot to choose Georgetown over UVA because UVA is a much better school.

Some ignorant old person who didn’t get into UVA keeps posting such nonsense. My UVA kid never saw her high school mates or even church friends at UVA (there are 30,000 people on campus). UVA does better with international placement for overseas grad work, like Rhodes, etc., and did so for my DD. Georgetown has too many issues at present. I might think of GT for foreign affairs but since greater than 80 percent of all students change majors, I would go with the school with the best track record for all majors.

But UVA is full of rednecks.

Is it? Hmm haven’t seen one yet.

I’ve never seen one there either and I’m actually in Charlottesville!

Re cost: UVA is $37k instate all in for College of arts and Sciences (UVA’s largest college). Georgetown is now one of the most expensive privates in the US at over $90, depending upon food plan and dorm selected. https://bulletin.georgetown.edu/expenses-and-financialassistances/basicgeneralexpenses/.

That delta -$53k x 4 years - is $213k in after-tax dollars which means most of us have to go make $400k just to pay the difference. And, yes, before you start with the usual scolding about not saving, and going in fancy vacations, etc., we did all the right things. And saved, and invested, and drove very old cars. We got no merit aid and no financial aid. If you have multiple kids and are taking care of senior family members these numbers don’t work for many of us. All of our kids went in-state public and have done very well in life and grad school. I am so grateful for the options in the Commonwealth

That’s probably because they don’t have a robust engineering program. That’s like saying they have a 0% admit rate in underwater basket weaving.

UVA has a small engineering graduating class. It’s an awesome program but isn’t as huge as other schools. Still very difficult and reputable by employers. Have you looked at the wash out rate within the first two years?
