Re cost: UVA is $37k instate all in for College of arts and Sciences (UVA’s largest college). Georgetown is now one of the most expensive privates in the US at over $90, depending upon food plan and dorm selected. https://bulletin.georgetown.edu/expenses-and-financialassistances/basicgeneralexpenses/.

That delta -$53k x 4 years - is $213k in after-tax dollars which means most of us have to go make $400k just to pay the difference. And, yes, before you start with the usual scolding about not saving, and going in fancy vacations, etc., we did all the right things. And saved, and invested, and drove very old cars. We got no merit aid and no financial aid. If you have multiple kids and are taking care of senior family members these numbers don’t work for many of us. All of our kids went in-state public and have done very well in life and grad school. I am so grateful for the options in the Commonwealth [/quote]
