Actually, my complaint against UVA, where my kid is, is that it's too UMC. Lots of socioeconomic attitude, which is very apparent during rush. I can't get over how many males (feel compelled to?) always seems to wear khakis and Sperrys. Where are jeans? Sweats? There is a definite UMC southern feel to the student body. |
My kid chose UVA over Georgetown (hated it) because of the campus. Too small. Not kept up as well. Didn't have a vibe. |
2/3 of the majority readers of this website do not live in Virginia, so the in-state/OOS comparison doesn't apply. Obviously UVS in state is a better deal than GU, but for the rest of us, GU is a better school with a better location, unless you want to be in Charlottesville (which I personally love to visit) |
You are complaining because the guys dress well? Unbelievable. Many boys are used to wearing khakis and sperries daily for years and years at private school. It is comfortable and normal for them. My son is one of them. He doesn’t own jeans, but does wear sweatpants. I don’t think he would wear sweatpants to class in college, but maybe? Probably would feel weird to him initially. |
The nicest neighborhood in the nation’s capital doesn’t have a “vibe?” |
Your kid is at UVA and all you see is kids in khakis and sperrys? Please post this in the UVA parent group and tell me how it goes. You are not describing UVA kids. |
| UVA kids wear sweatpants and hoodies, like all other college kids everywhere. |
I don't understand, why did they apply to Georgetown if they hated it? These complaints seem like something that is easy to determine before applying. |
Yeah, absurd comment. My kid wore sweats, shorts, and jeans. Lots of students down there from all walks of life. |
Well, that's some tortured reasoning! |
OP lives in Virginia. Read opening comment |
| They are both great schools but different vibes. DC picked Georgetown. Their friend picked UVA. Both are thriving. |
Georgetown if you can afford it. |
