I know it is an opportunity to be avant garde, but most of them just look simply unattractive.

Did none of them consult with anyone who actually knew when the Gilded Age was? The people in the 1920s flapper dresses look so dumb. I feel like you had two choices - wear something that's a take on 1870s-1890s fashion, so corsets, bustles, etc. - or play on the "gilded" term and wear gold, glitter, etc.

I mean, they could have just watched the TV show to get ideas...

The way so many stylists got it absolutely wrong is embarrassing. Isn’t this their entire job??? To understand fashion and style???

I'm not too fussed about guests missing the theme, because really a theme is meant to be deconstructed and reinterpreted. However, I think most looks are terribly ugly, more so than in previous years. And that's fine too - they're meant to shock, not to please. Not defending the looks on display. Just saying that's how it is. This isn't a deb ball.

Gwen Stefani = Is that really her??
Kylie Jenner = the hat looks ridiculous and ruins the outfit
Kate Moss and Hailey Bieber = are black pantyhose coming back??
Sheer black = overdone in various forms. Even Lenny Kravitz!

SJP literally nailed the theme and infused it with a fashion-forward take.

Black pantyhose are a throwback to another era; it was a fashion choice as a nod to an era, not a current trend.

Kylie looked dumb. Kendall’s dress was on point with a modern spin. Khloe looked hot—did you see the pics with her gloves and wrap?

SJP - there were nails involved, really? Picture?

Black pantyhose - PP asked if they were coming back and they are, just wait. Or be as cutting edge as Kate Moss.

Kim had to lose 16 pounds to fit into Marilyn's dress. NO alterations were allowed to be made to it.

She changed into a replica after her entry. It was on loan from Ripley's Believe or Not museum who purchased it in 2016--cost $4.8 million.

I love how the epitome of a curvy woman, MM, still was at least 16lbs lighter

All of Monroe's clothing is super expensive and goes for wild prices at auction. I'm surprised they let Kardashian borrow it.

Another view

I see her mother in her face.

I'm 15 pages behind - but I was going to say the same thing. It's the first time I've seen the resemblance so strongly. She looks great here.

You may not like them but they are richer and more famous than almost every other celebrity there.

But they’re not fashionable at all and traditionally their fame and money wasn’t enough for the invite. This was the first year Khloe and Kourtney were invited. And Kim was never invited until she got with Kanye as he was friends with Anna Wintour.

Seeing Kim in that MM dress just emphasizes how blah she is. No star quality.

I thought the best on theme looks were: Blake lively, lizzo, Kaia Gerber, Jessica chastain

Yep. I always get pissed when people refer to Marilyn as 'large' or 'fat'. She was so much smaller than women today. And a size 10-12 in the 50s is like a size 4 today.

Kim is tiny--like 5'1". 16 pounds is a helluva lot of weight to lose on a small frame. I'm 5'4" and curvy/athletic/muscular and when I lost 10 pounds people told me I looked anorexic/too skinny.
