Nope. Non-citizens can legally buy guns and have gun licenses. Tho I doubt Republicans realize that. |
Community organizers play a critical role in assisting voters, especially BIPOC.
It is critical that this vital infrastructure is insulated from right wing attack- let’s pass voting rights today |
I think this "voting rights" stuff is BS.
We should focus on early voting (1 week to vote in elections) and voter IDs. Both of these is reasonable. I think both sides are nuts....Right limiting access and Left allowing anyone to vote. https://www.cga.ct.gov/2014/rpt/2014-R-0250.htm |
The democrats offered voter ID with this Bill, but it didn't sway any right wing support. Maybe, now hear me out, the voter ID isn't really much of an issue? That said. if state and local governments made it easy and free to get ID's, then sure go ahead and make it a requrment. As it is, in many places, it isn't easy and no where is there no or reduced costs. It should not cost something for someone to vote. Please address this. |
The left does not allow "anyone" to vote. You need to be a registered voter. Part of being a registered voter in most places, includes proof of US citizenship and residency. There are a handful of jurisdictions that allow non-citizen voting in local (ie not federal) ballots. |
Then, why are Dems complaining about student IDs not being accepted in Texas--when proof of US citizenship is not necessary for student ID? |
Registration and voting and vote counting are different actions. States set their own requirements. Some states intentionally try to make it hard for blacks, Hispanics, and college students to register, to vote, and to have their votes counted. It’s always been that way. It’s what conservative state and local governments do. Every one of them. |
So, it's not okay to require proof of residency and citizenship to register in Red states? That is what you are saying. Sorry, but the Dem bill is not sufficient. It allows a "work around" which eliminates the need for proof. |
1. Makes Election Day a holiday. Why? They are requiring at least 15 days of Early voting. Do you know what happens on Federal holidays? People travel. Do other things. Presidential voting days have been no school days in FCPS. People go awaay. |
2. Ends gerrymandering. Doubtful. |
"Combats anti-voting laws" is not true. The laws being passed are no tougher than the ones in many other states--see Delaware. The laws being implemented reinforce voter integrity. |
Automatic voter registration is not a good idea. How is this going to be done? Residence? Birth? Are you going to drop people from the rolls when they move? Doubtful. It is not hard to register.
|
The "national voter standard" is not reasonable. Utility bills do not indicate citizenship. And, they do not necessarily indicate residence. |
Wow, the Republican propaganda machine has really kicked in to overdrive for the last half dozen or so posts. |
