But, I just thought I would share for all those who think we can just work sick, expose ourselves to their sick kids and basically just become very ill so that their children can get tax- fed schooling while they work. There is no sub so my class has been split amongst my teammates until I am cleared to work after my surgery and rehab. It is such a mess.

So sorry you are sick and that you serve families that can't or won't take off work when their kids are sick. That's awful. You also didn't take off work when you had Covid. Interesting.

It's not that nobody cares. It's that closing schools harms kids, and kids matter too. Sometimes people get sick and it sucks, but it doesn't mean that we need to deny in-person education to children. I don't know why teachers seem to think that because public schools are funded by taxes, that they are "free" or that that people don't have a right to expect that school systems will provide an education. It's not free.

Some of us do care. Teachers are not allowed to take off sick. Seek help. Something is off is you have zero concern or empathy for others. Something is off if you don’t understand how your behavior impacts others.

Closing schools does not harm kids. People being sick does. If your kids are harmed by being home, seek help.

Closing schools harmed kids.

No, it did not. Being home with parents who don’t want them harmed them. How were your kids harmed by being home with you? What did you do to fix the issues at home!

Why not switch to a fulltime virtual model then? If there are so few benefits to in person school like you say, we as taxpayers could save a lot of money on facilities, etc. by going fully online. Parents who need child care could pay for it themselves.

We’re you living under a rock for the more than a year schools were virtual and the disaster that was? The hysteria has got to stop. We have done enough harm to children for no good reason.

Amen!!

How were your kids harmed?

I personally pulled out and homeschooled my kid. It didn’t do any permanent harm. However, we are both shift workers so could make it work. There are plenty of parents who have regular day jobs who
Don’t have this option and find the option of homeschool daunting.

When and how will I get notified if mcps goes virtual after winter break? We have no known exposure and stay in town( mostly at home), would that be helpful anyhow if I send my ES vaccinated kids tested for pcr before school starts on Monday? Make teacher feel better/safer?

They have some sniffles, but the symptoms could be gone by the end of this week.

They aren't going virtual. They have been clear about it.

That is your rational for being harmed. If you were listening, why not step in and offer to provide support to your kid and others?

My kids have gotten great computer skills because of virtual. Their typing skills are impressive. Sounds like a parenting issue.

Teacher here. I’d love if every family sent negative pcr results before school on Monday.
In my house we are moving forward as if our schools are open on Monday (my kid’s schools and mine) BUT we also know there is no guarantee. I won’t believe it until everyone is at school on Monday morning. Until then all bets are off.

Provide support for others? WTF are you talking about? Do you really think anybody takes you seriously here?

Provide support to your kids while in virtual or doing homework. Its called parenting. You should try it. You really don't expect a young child to be on a computer without help, do you? Maybe that's why your kids struggled so much. You!

Just heard from an MCPS source that their are hoping to trigger an automatic closure by hitting a certain positivity % among students but are otherwise reluctant to make a closure decision.

You really have reading comprehension issues. I'm not sure if you're a troll or just aren't very bright. Likely both, though.

I assume you mean “they’re” instead of “their”. Who? The administration? Teachers union? Teachers in general? One person you talked to?

MCPS is offering virtual. That sounds like a great plan.

I'm clearly bright enough to figure out how to make my kids successful in virtual. Too bad you aren't willing to put in the effort into your kids as we do. Maybe they, and you would be more successful and you would be a kinder person.

Really, you have yet to say what the real harm in it all has been.
