Michelle says that her daughters are much more victimized by the media attention than by their brother.

And I agree with michelle. Her family is being attacked, nand not out of comcern and compassion, out of pure hatred. You all are so sick, and you don't even realize it.

NP here. I agree with you both.
I also cannot understand how people can be so outraged about this, yet no outrage that this police report was released (and I believe it was ILLEGALLY released) and there was little effort to keep the identities of the victims from being public.

I read one freaking article, and now I can't stop thinking about it. It is just so disturbing - even more than I thought possible. The parts of the interview that made it into the Post article I read this morning are stomach turning. The Dad said it was a "child preying on a child" like that is some kind of excuse. Disgusting. This isn't about a couple of 13 year olds. If I caught the facts right, he was 14 and the victim was 4.

I agree.

Those kids are so brainwashed it makes me sick.

Why do you think the report was illegally released?

I feel for the kids. JB and Michelle got to live a normal life-real school, friends, activities. Then they chose to join
and raise their children in an oppressive, abusive and misogynistic cult.
The Duggsr children had curiosity and free will beaten out of them at an early age, with blanket training
and a "rod". They are programmed to obey. They truly believe if they don't follow their cult training that they
will go to hell. They think when bad shit happens to you, God is punishing you for something.

Interesting. Did you see the document released by the town of Springdale today
explaining why the report had to be released under the Arkansas FOIA laws?

Yes, the girls have been raised to believe that all this is their
fault. Another sin their parents will have to answer for.

Evidently, a judge today (Stacy Zimmerman) ruled with the Duggars about the release of the police report.

I haven't been following this and I'm not sure if I have all the facts straight, but here's my take:

No parent would call the police and pursue criminal charges against their tween...especially in a situation that involved groping and not rape. Anyone who says they would turn their kid in over this sort of thing is lying. If you were in their shoes, you would intervene, take precautions, and get everyone into therapy/treatment.

And I do feel bad for the girls. This info should not have been made public. Period. No victim should have their story made public without their consent. The media circus is shameful.

I can't stand the Duggars or what they stand for, but I don't think this information should have been made public. It simply isn't fair to those girls to publicize what was handled years ago. Regardless of how it might have been handled better or differently, it's not anyone else's call on sharing such private information about the victims. It's their story.

No, could you post a link, please?

Your perspective on this is very refreshing after all the hatred and harsh words towards the duggars. Thank you for being honest and sharing your perspective. I know that lots of people don't like them and disagree with their beliefs and values, but I really liked their show and it makes me so sad to know what their family is going through.

I haven't had a chance to see the interview, and I'm not sure I'd watch it if I had the chance. I feel like this is such a private issue. And since this is an anonymous forum I will say that I've been through something very similar, where a family member did something like this and the police were involved immediately. It was more harmful to the victim that it would have been if the parents had dealt with it privately. And the abuser didn't get any consequences at all. Not even therapy. So those of you who think you that think you know what's best for the duggars should try to be a little more open minded. Things don't always work out the way you assume that they should.

I don't agree with exactly how they handled it. I do think they did the best they could.

What I find problematic is their decision afterward, to become public figures in a reality show, and their careful shielding of Josh and disregard of the girls. If something so horrible happens in a family, then why star in a reality show?

We have a juvenile justice system for a reason...primarily because science and medical research tell us that the adolescent brain isn't fully developed until early adulthood and impulse control is lacking. Google it. Most boys have access to the internet and porn at an early age...and that satisfies curiosity. The Duggar kid would not have groped his sisters had he owned an iPad and lived in a normal family. Had this case ever gone to court (which is a real stretch given the victims were family and the alleged acts primarily were limited to over clothing groping), even a newbie defense lawyer would have gotten him off given his age, the offenses and his circumstances.

I think if you actually knew some of the stupid shit your husband, brother or son did as a tween you'd be less shocked. Anyone know cousins who played doctor? Anyone play doctor themselves? Anyone recall playground bullying where a kids pants were pulled down or a bra was snapped?

Think about all the keg parties you went to in high school and crazy shit guys tried. Back in the day we referred to the guys at one local catholic school as date rapists because they were so crude and aggressive (no actual rapes that I know of, but I vividly remember being pinned against a wall --- and that guy is a decent adult...he just acted like a stupid shit one time).

If the Duggar kid is a serial predator, then the acts would have increased in intensity and would not have stopped. Big difference between a sexual predator and a stupid, impulsive kid.

+1

I've wondered all along why the report was released. Everyone involved were minors.

Exactly. I feel like their whole claim to fame is their morality. This discovery sheds light on them (they are human, make mistakes) but it also raises lots of questions about the choices that allowed them their fame in he first place.

I agree with this to but then again Lena Dunham has a show and even wrote about sexually molesting her sister in her book. It is like people lose perspective when the possibility of fame is before them.
