Yes, keep your own league in the dark on important changes in order to troll the other league whose clubs can be planning for the change. Brilliant!

My kid plays for a top GA club and nobody really cares if it's BY or SY. Even the jersey thing isnt an issue because all players in a grouping are assigned a number based on their alphabetical last name 0-99. They do this so players can move up/down without issue. At least for our club if a SY change is announced they'll probably give olders the option to stay with the current team or play down. The youngers will just be moved to a different team. Clubs will have over a year to make a couple of hours of decisions about who moves to which teams and who stays. GA not announcing anything is not an issue. And yes it is funny watching the ECNL parents go crazy about it.

Nobody cares? Or nobody is paying attention to it right now? They're going to care when teams start splitting up and those awesome Jan/Feb kids start getting replaced with Aug/Sept kids.

What might be MOST interesting is if GA says it'll implement SY BUT after 2-3 more seasons at BY as a transition to players who have participated in BY their whole youth career. Then, they'll be there to pick up the talent left hung out to dry after ECNL puts together Aug-Dec dominant rosters.

Thats a good idea + it would drive the ECNL people crazy.

That’s not a bad idea but eventually they would want a BY feeder system because eventually RAE gets kids to quit which is typically the younger players. Would only work for about 2-3 years then might be an issue.

But I am in favor of a By/Sy soccer ecosystem as it helps combat RAE and gives families more options for their kids.

That IS the idea ... "What might be MOST interesting is if GA says it'll implement SY BUT after 2-3 more seasons at BY as a transition to players who have participated in BY their whole youth career. Not true even in the least. I was in GA league meeting w/ club owners and directors yesterday, it is staying BY confirmed. Stop BSing people.

It doesn’t matter anyway, so why are you just making things up?

Do you mind disclosing a little bit more about your "GA league meeting" ? The GA annual general meeting was a week ago. So was your meeting yesterday , the last day of the playoffs, an official one with GA people ?

Not trying to split hair, but youth soccer clubs are usually non profits with no "owners" , I guess you meant club top management ?

GA is a business organization, we have meetings…. Not every decision is made in annual meetings. And not every decision involves parent liaisons.

This is correct. GA literally announced it in the room at the AGM and anyone that was there can confirm. The PP just thinks it is funny to go over the top to counter for some reason, most likely him/her just being an asshat. The change willl be easy for most but very hard for some so we should recognize that there are parents who have a significant vested interest in the outcome.

Not true…again. I actually posted what was discussed at AGM…because then too…I was there.

I really don’t understand the need to make up a change we haven’t made. Is this coming from a place of competitiveness? Need for attention? Or just some odd need to validate what recreational organizations and ECNL decide to do? Their decision is their prerogative.

We believe, just like MLS believes, that remaining BY gives our girls the best opportunity to develop into fantastic soccer players and future leaders. Totally OK for ECNL to be more focused on collegiate matriculation, especially on their boys side. Does not mean we have to.

Tired of playing against giraffe defenders born in January and February.

So welcome SY !!

??? You’re tired of playing against them? 🤣

Why do you believe so strongly that BY is superior?

For the third or fourth time………why not disclose who you are? What is the downside, unless you are just a troll who is full of crap. I have literally talked to three different GA club coaches who have ALL said they are going school year for 26/27. So if you want anyone on this thread to believe you just tell us who you are or what club you represent at the very least. If you did this I might actually question what I was told.

Big GA meeting yesterday…………that nobody else in GA knows about with strange timing since it was a travel day back from playoffs………..🙄

But I can already script your response………”why would I do that, I have nothing to prove, yada yada yawn”

It comes from a place of logic. GA HAS to make the change. They are the follower, not the leader. Zero chance they dont follow ECNL and others. It simply doesnt make any sense. So no GA team will go to Jeff Cup or Surf Cup or Dallas Cup? You think GA is going to be a pro pathway when 90% of pros come from ECNL. We need to have a high school class on critical thinking.

The GA U13 national champion is ranked 25th in the country and the U19 national champion is ranked 13th. To think they have the same strategy as MLS next is laughable.

Not the same animal. GA will always be a college first league.

MLS academy is the new competitor to ECNL.

MLS Homegrown is for kids walking the path to pro.

If the top ECNL clubs eventually switch to GA or some other new league say the NWSL tries to associate with, it changes everything, because ultimately it's about clubs, not leagues.

Yes but the league/club has to be able to justify to families that it’s worth it to switch from ECNL to GA. Currently ECNL has the vast majority of talent in terms of teams and players.

It would be a big gamble from a club to pull out of ECNL especially if other local clubs stay in ECNL.

How many would have to switch for it to be worth it? Also why would you switch GA/NWSL better be offering big time opportunities for the girls to justify a club switching. In my experience players play for the badge not the club.

To bring back the hold your kids back debate. LeBron James was a 8th grade redshirt kid. If a 6”9 freak athlete thinks repeating a grade is worth it maybe they are onto something.

I guess it pays to be a cheater

The last NWSL team that folded was only 7 years ago. The league just started to get it's footing a few years ago.

The hard salary cap of the league currently stands at 3M, about the same amount to fully fund an academy. Can't really compare to MLS. So can we stop this pro pathway talk for now ?
Anonymous

And currently none of the NWSL teams is profitable. I just don't see how NWSL would put youth academies as a priority.
