ECNL moving to school year not calendar

And currently none of the NWSL teams is profitable. I just don't see how NWSL would put youth academies as a priority.

BS thing to say. Almost no sports teams are profitable. Men's or women's. Its not how the accounting is setup to function.

The valuation or "what the club is worth if sold" is where money is made. NWSL clubs have increased their valuation by over 50% in the last year alone. Thats a very good investment.

On top of that the league is expected to bring on multiple new clubs. The going rate was over 100 million. Which is distributed to all current club owners. Which again makes NWSL a very good investment.

And finally NWSL is expecting to get an even better media deal in a couple of years. Which is just more money to distribute to owners which pumps up valuations even more.

This is correct. GA literally announced it in the room at the AGM and anyone that was there can confirm. The PP just thinks it is funny to go over the top to counter for some reason, most likely him/her just being an asshat. The change willl be easy for most but very hard for some so we should recognize that there are parents who have a significant vested interest in the outcome.

Not true…again. I actually posted what was discussed at AGM…because then too…I was there.

I really don’t understand the need to make up a change we haven’t made. Is this coming from a place of competitiveness? Need for attention? Or just some odd need to validate what recreational organizations and ECNL decide to do? Their decision is their prerogative.

We believe, just like MLS believes, that remaining BY gives our girls the best opportunity to develop into fantastic soccer players and future leaders. Totally OK for ECNL to be more focused on collegiate matriculation, especially on their boys side. Does not mean we have to.

It comes from a place of logic. GA HAS to make the change. They are the follower, not the leader. Zero chance they dont follow ECNL and others. It simply doesnt make any sense. So no GA team will go to Jeff Cup or Surf Cup or Dallas Cup? You think GA is going to be a pro pathway when 90% of pros come from ECNL. We need to have a high school class on critical thinking.

The GA U13 national champion is ranked 25th in the country and the U19 national champion is ranked 13th. To think they have the same strategy as MLS next is laughable.

If the top ECNL clubs eventually switch to GA or some other new league say the NWSL tries to associate with, it changes everything, because ultimately it's about clubs, not leagues.

How many would have to switch for it to be worth it? Also why would you switch GA/NWSL better be offering big time opportunities for the girls to justify a club switching. In my experience players play for the badge not the club.
This is what i believe will happen over time. Eventually NWSL will be forced to field the best possible players. Right now the rules arent really setup to incentivize homegrown players. Which is what needs to happen before acadamies start being formed.

Basically theres enough high level female players looking for work that NWSL doesnt need to develop them. Hopefully USL or Liga MX Femenil or WSL or any of the other big female leagues will continue to grow pressuring NWSL to make a change.

MLS academy is the new competitor to ECNL.

MLS Homegrown is for kids walking the path to pro.

MLS homegrown is a type of contact MLS clubs can sign academy players that have been residing in their homegrown territories for at least 12 months and are between the ages of 14 and 18. Not the op, but yes, that is the path to pro. Much of this stuff with leagues is alphabet soup but this is different.

If you’ve got an Aug - Dec kid and you wait to think about it next year, then it’s too late.

If you have an Aug-Dec kid that's top tier coaches are reaching out to you. Also you likely have connections into the different teams.

This might shock you, but some of the best clubs don't actually break recruiting rules (only because they know parents will reach out first)

A MLS homegrown contract is a professional contract so not sure where you are going with this debate.

Theres no rules about reaching out to players in different leagues.

Also the rules about not recruiting olders in season is toothless. If a parent and club wants a player to switch to their club mid season it will happen. Technically clubs could block the transfer but parents could sue and likely win. Also there will be a time in the future when club a wants to pull from club b mid season. If they cause a big issue for other clubs now other clubs will do the same thing to them in the future. For youngers its a little different because recruiting isn't involved.

The way it should be. Unless a club is paying you money you should be free to leave and play for another club at anytime. College adults can do so should youth players.

Will it change the quality of kids at the top team at teach club? Highly unlikely.
