What do you think of this!?

I have my DD enrolled in a dance class with a friend and her DD. One of the other mom's at DD's dance class has been leaving her two very young children asleep in the car (locked and running) outside the studio with a baby monitor so she could hear if they woke up. She will watch her DD dance and hold the monitor...usually she never gets the boys out of the car (they sleep for the whole 45 min class)

After the first few weeks (it had been going on before I figured it out) I said something to the studio owner/instructor...I wasn't comfortable approaching her because my friend and I seemed to be the only one with a concern about it, and I have to sit with these people every week 'till June...not to mention, my opinion wasn't likely to change her behavior. Anyway, after that she brought the boys in for a few weeks in a row...then just went right back to it...but she would hide the monitor in her pocket or something (I had actually assumed, foolishly, that she had left them with a sitter...the only way I knew they were out there was that she had to go get one one day...yes, she left the older one asleep and brought baby in one day.)

So last week my friend had appearantly had enough... unbeknownst to me at the time, she called the police department and told them that it was happening regularly for months... They came and spoke to her (caught in the act) and from what she shared, they were "good about it" told her "you're doing the best you can" and they "had to come out and check because someone complained" "just don't do it again"... And when she returned to dance class with the boys everyone told her they couldn't believe it and how awful that was and how, you can see the car from the door, we don't see what the problem is. Seriously? what would you have done?

Please, I hope this is a troll.

No, not a troll! Why would you say that?

So... was she able to see her car from the door?
Anonymous
Just call the police on her. Period.

What would I have done? Well I may not agree with what she's doing, but if she has her monitor, the car is running for heat or air conditioning and can see the vehicle from where she's sitting.... then I would've just left it alone.
The kids were fine. Why the hell are you causing problems?

I thought this was a troll because it just sounds crazy! I can't imagine leaving children in a locked and running car. I would hope that and have always assumed that it was illegal. Imagine what could happen??!! I am shocked that the police had the reaction that they did.

No this is just seriously not safe. People just need to stop over scheduling their lives. When my two were younger babies, my eldest just had to miss certain activities because they occurred during nap time for the others. Holy bacon, would it kill her to not do this dance class at the kids' nap time?

I hope you have no children or animals in your care.

If she can see the car and it's only for 45 minutes, than it's really not a big deal.

OP, what were you trying to accomplish? Did you and your friend want this woman arrested and taken away from her children? Did you want CPS to get involved?

I have three beautiful children and a dog. I neglect them ALL the time. It's my favorite thing to do EVER.

If she does it again, I would call the police again.

Cars can heat up inside really fast even on 60 degree days, and many cars' A/C don't work as well while parked and might not be enough to overcompensate. Or what about possible CO2 leakage into the car? I know its not an enclosed space like a garage, but its got to be more than you'd get while moving. I think it's horrible.

And I will leave my 11MO in the car while running back to my house for 30 seconds, so I'm not the super-paranoid type. But 45 minutes?? No way.

Not to mention -- a running car that can easily be stolen....what an idiot...and a bunch of other idiots taht co-signed on it. The police did her a favor...i hope she learns from this. Just WOW!

The doors are locked. And if another person says, "just wow!" one more time, I'm gonna lose it.

Unacceptable. I would have called the police.
