Are you referring to GA and/or MLS Next? Comments based on what? Please elaborate.

You are not paying attention. Harkes is trying to save the club after his predecessors almost pissed everything away. It was not economically viable for Mclean to share its ECNL revenue three ways.

ECNL revenue? So you think ECNL revenue gets passed down rather than lower teams subsidizing the top teams?

What you say might be true about the lower teams "subsidizing" to some degree - in other words, they are more profitable than the top teams but that's not what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about is that the club lost out on nearly a half million in revenue this season (before costs) with the merger and that is not sustainable.

Before the Union, Mclean had 12 ECNL teams (boys/girls) for which they kept 100% of the profit (after paying coaches, paying ECNL, and renting fields, etc). After Fairfax VA Union, I assume they split the profit 3 ways with Vienna and BRYC. (McLean kept all or nearly all of the revenue from the original union with SYC).

Conservatively, figure $3,000/player, 20 players per team for 12 teams (6 boys / 6 girls), and that is $720,000 in revenue, so the profit is some percentage of that. After the merger, their ECNL teams only provided $240,000 (1/3 of $720,000).

Now Mclean will have less talent and fewer players (in the short term) across the entire club with current RL kids set to play on their top team, and everyone else due to move up a step (NCSL->GA2, etc). The lowest teams in the club will likely evaporate. But Mclean is not sharing any revenue, so they are back to a financially sustainable business model. Good job, Harkes!

Fc richmond was given the mlsnext2. I am not sure what will be the quality of teams in MlsNext 2?

My DS is on an ECNL team and they have played several MLSNext teams and none were as competitive as the top ECNL teams we faced in playoffs. A couple teams we played were just bad. Could be MLSNext is stronger in other regions.

I feel like the whole MLS vs ECNL thing is a money grab that is just further diluting talent. Maybe we'll have to find quality competition outside of league play.

Top players do not care about HS soccer.
you want to bet? I know a decent amount of kids who will attempt to exit to FVU and VDA

I don't know any. I am sure a lot of players will be cut and may say that's why they are leaving.

The expectations of influx of talent is comical. i know alot who will tryout elsewhere. Ill bet ya will see at least half the current starters at VDA. In fact many had to be told not to show this past week because of ECNl rules. So obviously u dont know.
