Yup, yes, for sure. They already had their tentative roster chosen at 90%.

This was not explained at our tryout so anyone not a current valor family might not know the team levels changed for next year.

Damn, that’s shady.

My child and a teammate got offers from Vienna that did not explain this. But you can tell by looking at their website. I can see why clubs would not spell this out; they want to make money!

If they change from one system to another, they should explain that.

ECNL changed the rules on ALL the clubs. Every club is required to change their ECNL team (former Gold at Valor) to now be called "Pre-ECNL"- maybe they should have mentioned it however every club has the same requirement so most parents know.

That's true for every club.

I would just ask which team is it …number 1, 2 or 3rd level team and which division they could be playing in? If the previous roster hasn't changed very much during tryout they will likely perform relatively the same in the from the previous division.

He’s been at GFR more than a year.

My son was on one of those 3rd level teams. Brand new coach who never seemed to know what was going on. Uncommitted players not showing up to practice / games. Always begging the 2nd team for guests so we could have a sub or two in games. It was terrible. We stuck around for a second year hoping for a new coach and a better experience. We just got more of the same but at least they roped more kids in so we didn't have to beg. I think a lot of parents made that a condition before coming back.
It always felt wrong that we paid the same for a much worse experience. The other coaches were obviously better. Their teams played in much better tournaments (rightly so). It felt like the 3rd team was there to subsidize the higher teams - since all the tournament fees are included in the price. Not starting that process all over again with a "TBD" coach.

This is a issue at most clubs. Its about revenue. Once your kid is labeled a 3rd team kid just jump to another club.

that sums it up all together. If your not a poached player you will never play at 1 or 2. Coaches forced to win at all costs. Or they are out.

Valor is just teeing up to sell to Loudoun in the next year. reason ENCL smoke and mirrors ploy. Fees making owners rich and even more once sells. Kids unfortunately left in the proverbial pitch.

How's that tinfoil hat fitting?
These are non-profits. No one "sells" anything and there are no "owners". The profits are funneled back to the directors as higher salaries. Loudoun is nowhere near Chantilly and a merger would make no sense for either org.

Do the "better" tournaments charge higher entry fees than the "low level" tournaments? Does the ECNL-RL league charge more than NCSL? Are all coaches paid the same or do the better, upper team coaches command higher pay?

The coach part is stupid and wrong. There are teams that haven't won a game in years and the coaches aren't fired. For the 3rd-5th teams they just want any warm body. Almost always the person hired has never coached club soccer before.

That's not fair. They run background checks. They will take any warm body without an ankle monitor. They have standards!
