Fox/BIG just raided the PAC and walked over the corpses of Cal and Stanford to do it. Two schools ranked higher than every school in the BIG. What don't we understand? |
Stanford is ranked higher than every school in the B1G, but Cal is ranked below Northwestern and tied with UCLA. |
What you don’t understand is that all four PAC schools that were selected are AAU members AND good enough in football. Is that clear enough for you now? |
(OP here) Agree, but also important to note that all four Pac-12 schools had/have significant appeal regarding viewership numbers/market. Some maintain that the San Francisco media market is not a strong college football market and that Cal & Stanford have low viewership numbers. |

2022 College Football Viewership Numbers for 119 Teams:
https://medium.com/run-it-back-with-zach/which-college-football-programs-were-the-most-watched-in-2022-94eca4f6acbd The lowest viewership numbers among the 18 Big Ten Conference members (including USC, UCLA, Washington, & Oregon) are Purdue at 870,000 and Rutgers at 618,000. Purdue & Rutgers are the only Big Ten Conference college football programs which average less than one million (1,000,000) viewers per week. Both Cal & Stanford viewership numbers are below 1,000,000 at 857,000 and 846,000 respectively. Only Rutgers has lower viewership numbers than UCal-Berkeley & Stanford. But, among ACC college football programs, at least ten (10) teams have lower viewership numbers than Cal & Stanford. Duke at 115,700 has the lowest viewership among all ACC college football programs. |
The bolded is doing a lot of work for you. The numbers don't lie. People don't care about Cal and Stanford athletics from an eyeballs standpoint. |

The B10 should have taken Colorado and Arizona to geographically link coast to coast and aid schedules |

“Fox/BIG just raided the PAC and walked over the corpses of Cal and Stanford to do it. Two schools ranked higher than every school in the BIG. What don't we understand? “ You don’t understand that the Big 10 schools tend to be traditional, sane, and Capitalist, whereas Berkeley & Stanford would probably fit better in whatever conference the Universidad de la Habana is in. |
Yup. The B1G wants to be today what the Ivy League was in 1954: the schools that the best and brightest of the American middle class aspire to attend. |
Interesting thought. Viewership numbers are too low, however. Also, the Arizona legislature wanted both U Arizona & ASU in the same conference. |
The BIG will do whatever FOX tells them to do! |
Nope.. the content is boss. Football is the only consistent mass audience product. |

The same short article has appeared in three different blogs during the past day.
https://thespun.com/college-football/big-ten-could-ultimately-force-notre-dame-to-join-conference The Big Ten Conference is not desperate to expand further, but this piece is appearing as an invitation to Notre Dame that will also solve Cal & Stanford's problem finding a home. |
Basically, this short article is a message to Notre Dame: Big Ten Conference telling Notre Dame that if Notre Dame joins the Big Ten Conference, then the Big Ten Conference will listen to Notre Dame's request to add Cal & Stanford. The issue regarding scheduling is not a threat, just a reality when a conference expands to 18 or more teams. Too many outlets carrying the same story so it seems to be a clear message inviting ND to talk. |
