I am "going out" to an event this Friday night. The dress is knee length and I think looks best with bare legs, especially with the shoes I plan to wear. Is going bare legged to an evening event this time of year, even with the colder than average weather, okay?
Thanks! |
OP, at the risk of being one of those notorious DCUM posters I have to say that your message is respresentative of a whole category of messages I've seen on DCUM lately. I marvel that there are seemingly smart women out there who use DCUM to ask questions like this. OP, you are asking DCUM to dress you. Think about that. Can't you consult the weather channel and make your own decision on this one? Really...think about that. Wow. |
| Well, PP, if my concern was whether or not I would be cold, then of course I would just consult thte weather channel. However, I am posting on a fashion and beauty board because I want an opinion on whether i would look ridiculous given the temps. You, obviously have no opinion on that, so feel free to move on. |

Personally, I'm OK with bare legs whenever you feel like it. Why should legs be more covered than arms or shoulders when inside? Yeah, it is chilly outside, but how long are you actually going to be outside? If you are dashing from the car to the door and will only be outside for a few blocks of walking at most, wear bare legs and open toes! If cocktails are outside--or you are going to be taking smoke breaks (shame on you) outside--then you might want to wear tights and possibly even boots.
If going with bare legs, just remember to moisturize well, and use self-tanner if your legs look like glow sticks and you are self-conscious of that. |
| This thread is tedious. Ya'll need to volunteer or something. |

I think the pp who is arguing with OP is just bored and looking for trouble. Ignore her!
OP- I went to a christmas party and had bare legs in December! My dress and shoes would NOT have looked ok with stockings and personally I cannot stand open toe shoes with stocking. So I went bare leg. Its really up to you but I would go bare leg if that is what will work with your outfit. |
|
Hate to say it but bare legs and toes look really weird to me this time of year, especially when it is rainy and under 40 degrees like it will be tomorrow.
Be prepared to have everyone stare at your legs and ask you if you are cold, because I guarantee you will have that conversation at least 10 times. But hey, I will be warm, so what do I care if you do something foolish? |
Interesting people you hang around with. In December no one asked me if I was cold and almost every person there had bare legs in a dress with strappy shoes. Maybe you should get out more. Sounds like you like to stay home in your pajama jeans. HA! |

Bare legs are for whores and small children. Put on some hose please.

| I went to an event on Monday. Only the woman that were older - 60+ - wore stockings. This was not a fashion crowd but an arts/culture crowd. That said, I'm a strong believer in doing what makes you most comfortable. I seriously doubt anyone would think badly of you one way or another. |
Really...who are you? Living in the 50's much? |
| Thanks to everyone who a actually provided advice - both pro and anti bare legs. The only time I will step outside is getting in and out of my car at the valet. |
THANK YOU. It is clear these other posters know it is wrong. Personally I am ok with bare legs in the summer if you are under 40 and not veiny or blindingly white legged. Just tacky if you ask me, and guess what, OP DID ASK. |
If everyone jumped off a bridge would you assume it was correct? Here's hoping! |
| How does going bare legs in a nice dress make you a whore? Please explain to me? Under my wedding dress I did not have on tights...oh damn I guess I am a whore too! |
