A lot of Israeli Americans are reading quite the opposite on Haaretz and 972, and this attitude is the reason they live in America now instead of in Israel.

If you talk to Israelis or people with an Israeli connection in America, they were in absolute disbelief in the beginning that Israel shut off water to Gaza, blew up hospitals and sources of food production, stopped medical and food aid, that snipers are targeting children. They put Israel on a pedestal. they didn’t know Palestinians or the swaths of people in dc who have worked in Gaza or the west bank over the past several decades. They had no clue about the evil happening across the wall and in Israel towards Arabs. Blissful, willful ignorance. And yet, they were on the front lines of rights for refugees and asylum workers, lgbtq, any marginalized group really. I don’t see anyone trying to dismantle the Israeli propaganda machine now that they may know better because doing so would threaten Israel. And they will tell you, however sad they are for the orphaned, limbless kiddies in Gaza, that to criticize Israel is antisemitic.

This has not been anything like my experience talking to Israelis or people with an Israeli connection during this war, many of whom are angry and despondent over what the Israeli government has been doing.

I wrote ‘in the beginning’. I think anyone who is not despondent at this point wouldn’t be saying so out loud, to a non Jewish person, at least.

I am Jewish, so they wouldn’t have been saying it to a non-Jew, but I promise you that many Israeli Americans, especially, were quick to see what Netanyahu’s government would do here in response to its failures on October 7, and they’ve been furious about it since then.

If you’re trying to make a parallel to Ukraine and Russia, was the invasion of Ukraine preceded by missiles being fired for over a year from Ukrainian territory into Russia?

Maybe, I'm trying to figure out what combination of clauses made Kosovo, Iraq and now Lebanon legal while Ukraine was illegal. The Rules Based Order manual was a little light on details.

I was just listening to local radio this morning and heard a quote from Austin about the "interoperability of US forces and Israeli forces" regarding the invasion in Lebanon. What does that even mean?

All those news reports from the past few days about how the US is mad at Israel, Israel isn't listening to the US, etc are just junk. It seems pretty obvious that the US is on board with Israeli military action in Lebanon.

Plenty of non-Jews support Israel, even now.

Evangelicals supporting Israel because you think it’s going to hasten the Second Coming, with all Jews then consigned to hell, is an odd form of support. Israel tolerates it to the extent it helps keep American dollars flowing.

it means, based on recent history, that U.S. intelligence and air defense assets will act as force multipliers in support of the IDF in connection with the suppression of terrorist or state activity (Iran), wherever situated in the region.

Israel showed the world how weak and ineffectual Iran's "resistance" forces have become. The US would be stupid not to join in and thankfully the military doesn't listen to social media influencers.

If Israel wants a 10 km safe zone, they should pull their borders IN by 10 km and guard from their original borders to the new slimmed down border. That should be mire manageable.
