Shots fired at Trump rally

Imagine if they would have killed someone repairing a roof or another officer, then we’d be complaining about their wanton use of force. Further, all of this is happening in a very short period of time, and decisions can’t be wrong.

And while we’re talking about quick and safe decision making, consider the stupidity of a shot former president thinking it’s more important to stay on stage, fist pump, and yell “fight” than vacate. But, somehow that irrational and unsafe behavior gets a pass, even though he put his Secret Service detail and the crowd in more danger due to his narcissistic behavior.

Sure you don't shoot first. But you evacuate the trump immediately upon reports of someone with a gun

You think the Secret Service could convince Trump to leave the podium before a shooting when they could barely get him to leave after he was shot? No way. Now, compress that into a quickly unfolding, uncertain event.

Exactly.

How exactly does getting shot (in the ear, by the way, not the face) increase one’s qualifications to be president?

I agree that it doesn't at all, but the ear is mighty close to the temple as far as possibly nearly killed.

The bullet was not near his head; he was cut by teleprompter glass that shattered.

Nope. You could see in footage from afterward0 that both teleprompters were intact.

Can you share a link to footage as glass is being reported beyond just Twitter. But a local NBC with India footage is far from great https://news.lee.net/partners/video-elephant/news/donald-trump-hit-by-glass-not-bullet-new-shocking-reports-claim-trump-shot-in-a/video_d4464a68-9b8c-5c80-8db3-9e5041735130.html

They truly do not comprehend that lots of normal people are turned off by Trump’s chaotic reaction to his attempted assassination.

There will be no real long run polling bump from this. It just further confirms your priors about Trump - his MAGA base will love him even more for it, the rest of the country will be turned by the chaos & violent rhetoric.

Vote like your life depends on it.

Your own silly apocalyptic tone is as bad as the MAGA base you criticize.

This country’s politics are sick. The actions yesterday was just the culmination of 10+ years of rhetoric like this:

Yesterday was “apocalyptic” because it will likely beget more violence.

So yes, vote like your life depends upon it.

My life doesn’t depend on whether Trump or Biden wins in November. Neither does yours. Touch grass.

Mine does.

There is going to have to be a thorough investigation into how this was possible, when it sounds preventable . What's tragic is the people injured and killed due to that. Americans have been done a HUGE disservice.

I had to think for a second when I saw SS until I realized it was secret service but for a second I thought trump had his own SS as in Nazi SS.

Yes. Trump surrounded himself with all white SS. Not one Asian, Black, or non-white Hispanic on his detail. He tells you who he is with everything he does.

Maybe there is an element of volunteering to serve? Would not surprise me if there is some decision-making power on the part of the agents. And I can’t believe you’re making this about the race of his detail to begin with.

Trump survives assassination attempt after major security lapse

BUTLER, Pennsylvania, July 14 (Reuters) - Donald Trump survived a weekend assassination attempt days before he is due to accept the formal Republican presidential nomination, in an attack that will further inflame the U.S. political divide and has raised questions about the security lapses.
Trump, 78, had just begun a campaign speech in Butler, Pennsylvania, about 30 miles (50 km) north of Pittsburgh, on Saturday when shots rang out, hitting the former president's right ear and streaking his face with blood.

Yes, it does. My state made abortions a crime thanks to Trump. I have a young DD.

Move to a different state. Problem solved.

Until all abortion is banned which is the stated goal of many republicans.

Your nutty assessment of that risk is as bad as the political opponents you hate most.

Except not. The next president will likely get two selections for scotus. We risk cementing this ultra right wing corrupted court. It’s not about the presidency only.

“Right wing corrupted court” - um, no. Again, your risk assessment is totally warped. The court has been great, far more balanced than the press conveys.

So it’s perfectly fine that Thomas has received millions in undisclosed gifts?

Sad day, indeed!
His victory has now been sealed!

People are fed up with the hate. They see Trump never giving up on the American people. When did any President fight for America like this?

Look I don't love Biden at all, but Trump is a spoiled silver spoon who has had everything handed to him, and has made a career out of squeezing the most of regular people, for as much as he can get. I am baffled how anyone thinks he cares about regular Americans.

Is it his words? Because it sure as hell isn't his actions.

Look at these posts. Trump eluded death by millimeters and these people just keep going.

Trump made a deal with the devil. He should be dead. He got lucky because a skilled shooter would have had a kill shot at that range.

There's no convincing. There's a fireman carry of shoeless trump. That's the protocol.

Pushing incredibly divisive politics affects everyone and puts everyone in harm's way. Last night I was disgusted to see all of the right wing posts talking about how the bullet nicking his ear put us 1 inch from civil war. They are itching for a civil war, and it's all fueled by the right wing lies and divisive rhetoric.

CNN

Former President Donald Trump was shot in the ear Saturday evening while speaking onstage at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in an incident that’s being investigated as an assassination attempt from a shooter on a roof near the rally site.

Trump was in the middle of delivering his rally speech – turned toward the right with his hands on his lectern – when the sound of multiple gunshots suddenly rang out at approximately 6:15 p.m. ET.

Trump grabbed his right ear and dropped to the ground as Secret Service agents told him to get down and rushed to the stage, protecting the former president while several more gunshots could be heard.

And I know exactly what these people would say back to me ‘he started it.’ Reminds me of when the republican congress members were shot at in Alexandria and everyone did the same thing. It’s depressing and frankly these people should be ashamed of themselves. They won’t have that insight. But they should.

Why should those posters be ashamed? Trump has said from his bully-pit that he endorses Ms encourages violence. And you can’t fault people for initially believing that Trump the lying actor had staged a photo-op. It his nature.
