| Obnoxious? Nice show of community? Other? |
Can be either -- depends on the car
|
| I like them because they help me accost parents of schools I'm thinking of looking at for DD! |
| I've got one because the school's not a Big 3 and I am/we are very happy there and want to show it. |
| I think it's a nice show of community regardless of sticker size, location, or color. |
| You know that the requisite 21 days have not passed since we had this. exact. same. identical. thread ... don't you? You must wait another 3 days. Sorry. |

Did someone just get accepted to a new school and can't wait to put the sticker on her car?

my kindergartner is ecstatic when she sees a car with a magnet from her school. She loves her school and loves being part of that community. I don' think it is much more obnoxious than having a sticker from my alma mater (which I have not put on my current car, as I have not been back for a reunion in the three years since I bought it...). I think it also helps identify the car as being allowed to park in the sometimes scarce visitor spaces at DD's school.
But yes, this has been discussed at length if you wish to do a search and read all the surprisingly strong opinions on the matter. |
| Social Climbing. Pure and simple. |
| Vulgar. |
| Gauche. But we are one of the few cars without one at our kids' school. My kids don't care. |
| I love them - We have one child at a mainstream private and one at a special needs private and proudly display both stickers! |
| I think there was an endless thread on this topic last year. I didn't like stickers on cars or anything until my kid got into Princeton. Then, I changed my mind. |

We don't have them on our cars because I drive too fast and DH's is definitely downscale. My marketing sense (not an expert) is we wouldn't attract paying parents of bright children. I notice more stickers in Montgomery Cty than I do in DC, and more Catholic (and L for Landon) than Big 3 and others. I guess I never thought a GDS or Holton Arms, or a purple G or SJC, was snobby. Just free advertising for a school they are proud to be part of.
For awhile I couldn't figure out what AHC (Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington) meant. I googled the initials while stopped behind a nice SUV and my iPhone popped up American Horse Council. For a few weeks I though AHC meant the driver loves horses. |
Hah. You nailed it. And the reason why so many Montgomery Cty cars have stickers is the social climbing thing. |
