Why are all the SAHMs I know fat?

| Ok, so not ALL, but most of the ones I know are. Especially ones that have kids in school. You have plenty of time to go to the gym, you can eat healthy meals at home. I don't get it. I would be pretty annoyed if I was a husband making all the money so my wife could stay home and she didn't take care of herself. |

| Boredom, emotional stress of dealing with kids, constantly having to think about food (grocery shopping, meal planning and preparation), and constant access to food. When I was a full time lawyer, no kids, I ate three times a day, usually food made by someone else or that required no prep, and I didn't see or think about food otherwise. Now that I have kids and work part time from home, I am always thinking about food, and it's all right there in the kitchen (including the treats I buy for the kids that I never had around previously). Housework and errands are a lot more boring than surfing dcum and eating the leftover pizza (which is what I'm doing now). Even my DH said, after taking care of the kids on his own for a week, that he'd weigh 300 pounds if he were a SAHD. I don't offer these as excuses, b/c I know plenty of fit SAHMs, and I was one for several years, but to explain my own weaknesses in case you are genuinely interested and not looking for a fight. |

Hmmm. Well, since we don't know you and all the SAHMs you know, it's hard to say. Maybe they are overeating to cope with having such an unpleasant friend? Also, apparently, overweight people have better sex, so maybe they stay fat because they enjoy the orgasms. I'm not overweight, or a SAHM, but those are my guesses. I am a stay-at-home mother. I am 5'5 and 110 pounds. And a marathoner.
Most of my friends are at home moms as well. None of them are fat. One or two might be a little overweight, but not fat. This thread kind of reeks of insecurity, resentment, and jealousy. Ask yourself why you feel you need to bash an entire group of mothers to make yourself feel good? |

That's so interesting, I thought I was staying home because SOMEONE needed to watch my children, I didn't realize that I really was staying home so that my husband could have someone pretty to look at. Obviously you're not a stay at home mom, but I wonder who watches your children as you find child-rearing to be a complete "luxury". Do you have a nanny? You must be furious if she shows up looking overweight or not wearing make up? After all you are working so that this woman or man has the LUXURY of staying home with your children, so if she is unattractive that must be hard for you. or do your kids go to day care? Have you asked for women to be fired for their appearance? I can't imagine how horrible you must feel if you drop your kid off at daycare and one of the workers needs to loose a few pounds. AFTER ALL, YOU WORK SO THAT THESE PEOPLE CAN STAY WITH YOUR KIDS ALL DAY. So it would be HORRIBLE if their personal appearance didn't meet your standards. And I'm sure, given that all they do is play with kids all day, no daycare workers or nannies could POSSIBLY have a life as challenging as your's, because you get to sit on a chat board while you work and insult other women. wow, your job must be so hard. do you surf porn while at work too? or just stick with chatrooms? |

| Really? Where do you live? Sadly I also associate overweight families with lower income. I know it's terrible so no lecture. Most of my friends go to the gym for at least an hr a day because it means someone else is watching their kids, myself included! |
