Sodastream

Does anybody here have a Sodasteam machine? It's a kitchen gadget that adds carbonation to liquids. We're interested in it because we drink a lot of seltzer. Anyone care to comment?

It's great for making seltzer -- one of the best kitchen gadgets ever. I think there's a thread or two on it around (including one that's is called something like "thanks DCUM). Much more convenient and cheaper than buying by the bottle.

It's great.

Love it ... have had it for 2 years now. Actually, we have two of them and I posted on the other thread.

Love it too. Have one at home and one in the office. Don't use the flavorings bc seem to artificial. But they are coming out with some more natural flavors that look good.

Which model? Glass bottles or plastic? Metal or plastic housing? There's too many choices

I would recommend the fountain jet because it takes the larger size CO2 containers (have to swap out less often) but note that if you plan to do cylinder exchanges at a local store I think they only will exchange the smaller CO2 containers (we do exchange by leaving them outside our door and they drop off/pickup within a few days).

I have both the Penguin (glass bottles) and the Genesis (plastic bottles). I like the idea of the glass bottles better but the plastic holds more, is easier to carbonate and I have had problems with the caps for the glass bottles cracking.

I have two fountain jets - one at home and one in the office. I love them. I bought the flavor samples and don't care for them. I bought the fountain jets on sale last fall at The Great Indoors and got them each for less than $70. I bought the fountain jets in case I wanted to use the larger cylinders. I find I won't need the larger cylinders, so I'll do local exchange on the smaller cylinders. My neighbors pool their cylinders with their neighbors and send then in a group to save on the shipping costs because they all use the larger cylinders. I am the only one using the machines, so I don't go through much CO2.

OP here. Thanks for all the responses. FWIW, I did do a search before posting but nothing came up. In fact, this thread is the only one that came when I searched a second time, perhaps due to the use of quotation marks in the other thread.

LOVE mine. I've had it for years - bought it at a Home and Garden show before they started showing up in stores. I have the original Soda Club that holds the larger cylinders. I probably make 1-2 bottles of water per day. The kids love making root beer or sprite equivalent when friends come over - its a big hit with them too.

FYI Strosniders in Bethesda carries the larger cylinders (sometimes they run out though).

Stainless container (Sodaclub Penguin) and glass containers (I'm a "plastic is from the devil" freak). Love love love my Penguin. We've had it three years and use it multiple times daily.
