Comment with your best guest winner gets a high five!

My guess is Sept 19 for ECNL and Aug 8 for GA.

What do you mean by “plans” for 26/27? ECNL is literally required to have school year registration in 26/27 - by US Club Soccer. The only announcement USCS / ECNL could make is exceptions for Q4s to play down in 25/26. My guess is nothing will happen with that.

seeing how they already have trapped player exceptions, those details are important

The details about 25/26 transitional rules are literally the only reason to keep this thread going.

But the question was when ECNL is going to make an announcement about its plan for 26/27. There's really nothing to announce - unless they decide to use GY at the older ages for showcases (not a terribly important issue).

Theres also a good chance ECNL and GA will implement some kind of exemption rule for trapped players born between 7/1 and 9/1. By doing this trapped players are completely eliminated.

Also leagues might do some kind of GY accommodation for regrade type situations when players are in their Junior and Senior years of HS and beyond.

With these two accommodations all edge cases are addressed and changing to SY from BY actually makes sense because you're getting something better which means less parent complaints.

There is zero chance … keep dreaming.

I agree zero percent chance this happens

Agree, zero chance. The only exception they can make will be similar to what they have for the trapped players during the trap year and GY for the senior. It will be a hard 9/1 cut-off of a 12-month range.

For the umpteenth time, GA has no trapped player rules. They removed them last year.

Our club literally just assigned jersey numbers by birthdate. January 1 gets #1, December kids in the 80s. How could they possibly think this is a good idea?

Haha…. Way to make it obvious who important and who’s not.

I like how the single date cutoff guy likes to answer his own responses.

It will be fun watching the know it alls cry when GA announces something different than what they've group think resolved.

There's someone on my kid's team with a sept birthday BUT they are in the grade above most that age (sorta the old school thinking of being earlier vs. later). While there may be an advantage to play at the top of the age group, the SY soccer year doesn't align with now the kid's current grade, which if they stay with, there will be even older kids and may actually cause a disadvantage.

This is my DD’s situation. Late Sept birthday. 9/1 school cutoff but she started school early so she’s already playing with kids in her grade. If soccer goes to 9/1 cutoff, she needs to play up to stay with kids her grade (which will be harder since the Sept-Dec kids a year older than her will drop down to her team). If she follows the new cutoff date and moves down a year, she’ll easily be the best kid on her team but she’ll be off cycle for college recruiting. If GA stays calendar year, she will consider leaving her ECNL club to avoid getting disconnected from the recruiting cycle.

GA and ECNL are changing age groups.
ECNL going 9/1 showcases U15-19 will be based off GY or allow for it.

GA most likely going 9/1 (still thinking about 8/1) they are also bringing back late developer clause they had in previous years. This would allow smaller players to play down so they can play with their grade. GA also allowing 80-90min of play per day depending on age groups for league play ( not showcases or nationals). Would have to pick one or the other.

This is to help retain the current younger month players from leaving for ECNL. Because they can technically play two team now.

Going 8/1 would also allow them to take players from ECNL which is why it’s being considered.

Nice try…

Multiple people are saying that different variations of SY+60, +30, 8/1, 7/1, waivers, or etc etc etc are going to happen because GA has an incentive to implement it.

And once GA relays their plans ECNL will do the same or maybe do somehting even crazier forcing GA to respond/implement.

Why would the same person post about different ways to do the same thing?

Its obvious that a single cutoff date wont address all issues. All the variations address most of the issues and would give GA and advantage over ECNL. (If ECNL stayed a single 9/1 curoffsaye.)
