BOE - who are people voting for?

It didn’t seem like Smondrowski put any effort in this time. I’m not sure why she entered, I wonder if it was a low key attempt to split the vote and keep Diaz from advancing (which didn’t work obviously).

At Large:
Lynne Harris 26,845 31.07%
Rita Montoya 26,824 31.05%
Melissa Kim 13,344 15.45%

Incumbent (Harris) has a strong showing. Very close race, may be equally close in the general.

D2:
Natalie Zimmerman 38,863 46.11%
Brenda M. Diaz 18,774 22.28%
Rebecca Smondrowski 14,216 16.87%

Incumbent (Smondrowski) voted out.

D4:
Laura M. Stewart 40,103 47.30%
Shebra Evans 22,840 26.94%
Bethany S. Mandel 21,843 25.76%

Incumbent (Evans) barely squeaks by, beating DCUM's favorite candidate (joke) by less than 1,000 votes. Strong chance Evans will lose in the general.

So in the general, we know 1 incumbent is already out (Smondrowski), and 1 is likely to lose (Evans), so that just leaves Harris. If all 3 get voted out, that will be quite a coup!

Not a coup. A demonstration of the power of the MCEA Apple Ballot.

Hell yeah!

Top two.

So At-Large will be:

Lynne Harris
Rita Montoya

District 2 will be:
Brenda Diaz
Natalie Zimmerman

District 4 will be:
Shebra Evans
Laura Stewart

What's crazy is how close Bethany Mandel came to beating Laura Stewart.....People in MoCo are PISSED OFF with the school board incumbents.

But the majority DO NOT hate LGBTQ kids and families! Which is a plus.

Do the top two move on to the general election?

I am disappointed that Shebra Evans survived the vote yesterday. Hope she loses in November.

I am not. I am happy that the third candidate in that race will not be on the ballot in November.

It looks like she will lose which I am glad for. I'd much rather have her on the ballot though than Bethany Mandel.

Why on earth did MCEA support Trone on the apple ballot? Dumb move.

It doesn't hurt that the Apple ballot makes the best picks!

This is true. I pick who I vote for based on the League of Women Voter's guide which just has answers to questions from each candidate (no endorsements). For the past two elections my picks have matched the Apple Ballot and I did not look at it beforehand. Before that, Lynne Harris was the exception.

Maybe because he has teachers in his family and supports policies geared towards education?

It looks like the Apple Ballot endorsement really only matters for the school board positions. Which makes sense.

Yeah I look at the Apple Ballot as part of deciding for school board, but not anything else.
