This is really weird, I thought this was going to be a normal high school, but they're promising our kids an aerospace and AI school.

Sounds like they are talking about TJ west. Definitely get the impression they are aiming for a certain demographic.

Not TJ. Western could be a comprehensive high school with an Aerospace, AI, STEM / Engineering focus. That's what they're getting at.

Not TJ. Western could be a comprehensive high school with an Aerospace, AI, STEM / Engineering focus. That's what they're getting at.

But, there is no emphasis on the comprehensive part. It sounded like it was just on the scientific focus. No mention of activities or classes other than the "future."

Some kids want the high school "experience." Where is that?

OMG the whole presentation is about airplanes. This is not going to attract the 95% of FCPS students who have zero interest in this incredibly niche topic.

I honestly can't think of anything I would be less interested in then sending my kids to some kind Baggage Handler/AI/Chat GPT themed school.

What are they thinking?

My kid was excited about the presentation, he likes the aerospace engineering and the AI.

I would guess some kids will be excited by the drones, piloting drones, and piloting planes.

That presentation is possibly the worst thing they could have done. I was on the fence but now I want no part of the western high school. I can't be the only one

Perhaps the ultimate goal is to allow for flexible transfers into or out of this new aerospace / ai focus high school. That won't rock the boat too much with the other nearby comprehensive high schools.

Yes, I think it's good that they're doing this. The kids need to hear about it from someone other than their parents. with graders are 13 and 14 years old - old enough to discuss this with their parents. I don't understand some of these parents who are trying to keep this info from their kids - 8th graders want to stay with their friends but also want to understand the impact to sports, theater, art, band, orchestra, chorus, etc.

Well it'd be nice to get the info in advance so we are not reliant on our 8th grader relaying the content, which apparently mine was not listening to. He said he got the impression they won't have everything at the school for 5 years- whatever "everything" is.
