High IQs

Is it possible to have a high IQ and be normal?
Anonymous
No. But normal is overrated.

Top 1%+

Sure. Some geniuses are janitors, because they are happy to have a job that lets them think all day. That doesn't mean their parents are happy, but that's a whole different issue.

My dad has a super high IQ and I would say he's had a pretty unhappy life in many ways, but I think it's more because his emotional IQ isn't really good. I wouldn't call him "normal."

My DS has a similar IQ (I know, I know everyone says that but he tests at >99.9 percentile) and we work REALLY hard to give him the social tools he needs and make sure he is well-rounded and has lots of skills that grease the social skids.

I was tested as a child and apparently my IQ is 140, which is considered moderately high. I've never had trouble making friends, having relationships, or relating to others. I have a reasonably successful but undistinguished career. I watch too much TV. I love being a mom. Overall I'm a pretty happy person. It's hard to define "normal" but there's certainly nothing about unique about me, other than the intangibles that make everyone unique and loved by their own family and friends. It may be different for someone with an IQ that is stratospherically high, like 170 or more.

I think 140 is the sweet spot

150 here and I'm a very critical person. I also get frustrated in dealing with other people when they don't understand what I understand. I think high IQ is kind of over-rated.

PP here. By "critical," I mean negative. I try not to be, but I am.

My IQ is unusually low but I am very sexy and my husband is smart and rich so it doesn't matter.

Can it be the other way around?

My IQ was tested when i was in 4th grade and I scored 160 (Stanford Binet scale). My DH's is much higher. You would never know if you met either of us. We have successful careers, but nothing special by DC standards. Perfectly social, plenty of friends, involved in sports, clubs, etc growing up. We both have always tested very well on standardized tests like IQ, SAT's, etc. I think some people are just naturally good testers.

I have a 120 and DH has 160. It is partly what attracted me to him. What attracted him to me? I was cute, fun, and pretended to be smarter than I am. Well, I set myself up for a lifetime of criticism from DH. He can't understand why I can't think as fast as he can or say exactly what I mean at all times. That may be a girl thing though, not sure. Anyway, if I had it to do over I would look for someone on my own level.
