This is going to be bad…

I agree that information on quarantines and illness has been awful. And clearly every health person is just doing whatever they want.

Classic FCPS under Brabrand and this board, really.

I have been saying this for weeks- FCHD is awful and does not care if your kid is vaccinated. 14 day quarantine no matter vaccinated status.

'tis a pity you've been saying this for weeks and haven't learned anything in the meantime.

Per FCPS website:

"Unvaccinated students who are identified as a close contact with someone with COVID-19 must remain home for 14 days after their last exposure.

Fully vaccinated students who are identified as a close contact with someone with COVID-19 do not need to remain home as long as they do not have symptoms. Verification of the status of vaccination will be required before a student may return to school. Verification will be completed by the FCHD contact tracing process. "

I personally plan to not answer any phone calls where I don’t know who is calling. If you can’t get ahold of me, you can’t make the determination that my kid needs to quarantine.

Won’t the school get notified?

DP. Parents who have vaccinated kids have had to call FCPS central office to get this correctly enforced. Vaccinated kids on multiple sports teams have been told to quarantine even though they have no symptoms.

Student-athletes who were vaccinated are being told to miss school also, just because a teammate they were not near tested positive. I have heard from multiple people whose kids are impacted.

The “abundance of caution” is going to be the downfall of the school year. An article from Germany last year captured how bad the uncertainty of constant quarantines is for kids. And we have proven better ways to keep kids from spreading Covid but in schools.

That's directly against FCPS' policy - who is telling them this?

Here's a link to FCPS' policies on COVID like symptoms/illness, if you are diagnosed with COVID, and if you are exposed to someone that is diagnosed positive for COVID.

https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/health-and-safety-guidance-document

If someone is suggesting something different then they should be prepared to back up where they are getting their information and guidance from.

In this case, I'd ignore Inova's guidance for school and defer to FCHD on their policy.

I would ignore it, totally. Vaccinated people don’t quarantine.

Both friends sons have to miss the first week of classes due to a positive test result of a teammate. Both are also vaccinated but had rapid tests come back negative as well as PCR tests that came back negative.

My friend and her husband, also fully vaccinated, were told to quarantine for 14 days as well.

These were instructions issued by the county health department to them once contacted after the school was notified of the positive result.

What county/state?

Covid ActNow says 79%.
https://covidactnow.org/us/virginia-va/county/fairfax_county/?s=21941120

I believe honestly it normally runs in the yellow. In 2018 DH was at the ICU and it was quite crowded. Sitting in the hallway at an ICU is nothing new. Mid-July we were down to 9 hospitalizations for COVID and the ICU was still 78% full.

I think it was on 1A today on NPR where they had a Dr. on and he said that normally you want the ICU at around 75%, which surprised me, but I suppose it makes sense. You don't want to staff a critical care unit and have no patients in it.

The CDC says that masked students are not close contacts regardless of vaccinated/unvaccinated.

FCHD does not care what the CDC says. They are smarter and more qualified to make guidelines. Ask them, they will tell you they are smarter, better and no what to do.

They are not masked during lunch.

Yes, but if they eat in less than 15 minutes, they are not close contacts.

If you miss school because you are sick, the school will call and demand you get tested.

Don’t say the kid is sick. Make up a minor injury.

I’ll tell you right now this guidance is BS. It’s not being followed. My daughter was in close contact with her coach, who tested positive Tuesday. The whole team was first told to wait to hear from FCHD but no one was contacted. Today we got the all clear that the whole team can go to school Monday (which I’m happy about) and no one was asked to provide proof of vaccination. it’s going to be a big mess.
