PP here. The point is that it was a totally clueless suggestion. |
The bigger question is why was there no consideration for loss of learning that happened in spring of 2020. That full stop in March of 2020 had a huge impact on my high schooler’s education and course trajectory. He’s a rising senior now. Too late. |
Your post contradicts itself. The first half correctly says this is a VDOE mandate which means your second claim that FCPS wouldn’t have had to do it if they hadn’t “encouraged” kids to opt out this spring is false. It wouldn’t have mattered what FCPS did or didn’t do with spring SOLs; they have no control. It’s state mandates all the way up. |
I hope FCPS feels the pressure of Montgomery county. Masks optional next year!!!! |
Fcps doesn't need to follow Montgomery cnty on anything. FCPS will look to MEDICAL experts at CDC, and then the subsequent VDOE guidance.
What makes the most sense is that unvax'd kids don't need to mask IF community transmission is below XX. If community transmission is high, then either the adults/older kids didn't bother getting vax'd, or the vaccine isn't working on a variant. But, I'm pretty hsppy to live in a county where most people are getting vax'd....and that should allow greater freedom for younger kids re: masks. |
FCPS isn't going to think about the spring of 2020 and I can tell you they're barely going to think about the past year. I can almost guarantee they're going to start up the fall just like every other gear and not look back. |
Vaccinated teachers should definitely not be required to wear them. WTH!!! |
What are you getting worked up about? I never said vax'd teachers should wear masks....trying reading what was written. |
They are for summer school. And nothing has been said about dropping it for fall. |
The superintendent said during tbe mtg (see p1 of this thread) that VDOE is waiting to see the CDC guidelines before they set the guidelines for VA. Then FCPS will work from that. So, we don't know what fcps will do in the fall.
All I said (above) is that 1. We don't need to blindly follow Montgomery cnty, and 2. Masks for unvax'd kids should be tied to community rates of infection...and that will likely be low because of high vaccination rstes here in Fairfax. |
Mongomery County, MD????? or PA? |
We don’t have to wear them when outdoors, so I can see the indoor requirement dropping by the end of summer. ES Teacher |
MD |
NP I didn’t realize they have announced mask optional for next school year. At the end of May they said they will require masks in the fall. https://www.mymcmedia.org/mcps-releases-fall-reopening-plans-and-mask-wearing-requirements/ |
But for recess kids then have to be 6’ apart. We know now that’s nearly impossible. |
