Because young people are doing a stupid thing right now? How does that even track? Young people are constantly finding ways to annoy their elders. This one looks like a real live wire in terms of doing that.

And big deal. In ten years, most of the kids who are calling themselves “trans” or “binary” will be back to calling themselves by their birth gender. The kids who are really, truly trans will have felt supported and loved and like people were trying to understand them. Oh noes.

Except a bunch of those kids will have taken cross-sex hormones and had mastectomies, because the medical community is treating this as something requiring affirmation, rather than seeing it as the “way to annoy their elders” that many of us recognize it as. People have been booted off Twitter for the crime of “misgendering” someone. Teachers have lost their jobs for not going along with it. I wish it were being treated the same as goth or punk or hippies or emos or grunge were treated in the past. But it’s not. And that’s deeply concerning.

I didn’t know much about this, but your post sounded hinky to me. Turns out, you’re wrong. Believe it or not, there are actually guidelines for who gets what (a supportive environment, puberty blockers - which are reversible and have been used for decades, hormones, gender confirmation surgery) and when. It's like abortion, if you don't want it, don't get it. If you don't want your child to have hormone blockers etc, don't get them. But don't stop me from living my life that I think is best for me and my family.
