HPV vaccine - did you get it for your son or daughter? If not, why?

I asked if it was like the shingles vaccine for adults- if they would feel ill for a few days.

“Oh no. Nobody has side effects from this. We highly recommend it.”

Talk to other people and thus us complete bullsh@t.

We aren’t getting 2nd dose.

My DD got a fever, chills and aches one year after the flu shot. The pediatrician said this wasn’t uncommon and predicted it would last 48 hours, and that’s exactly what happened. What you describe, PP, are common side effects that should resolve over the next day or two. Now, if they continue beyond that then I would agree with your inclination not to get a 2nd shot.

Please tell me my satire meter is broken.

What? I’m merely saying that PP describes temporary side effects that are common with every vaccine, not just HPV - and not necessarily a reason to skip the vaccine.

Yes. For all 4 kids. No issues.

Both my DS and DD have had the 2 dose HPV when they turned 12 and 6 months later

no reactions, despite DS having a severe egg allergy

Legit study.

Interesting how they make the case that adverse reactions should be accurately recorded and studied instead of ignored.

Interesting that Japan no longer recommends the vaccine due to adverse reactions (chronic headache and pain lasting years; suicide).

Like all vaccines, most people don’t suffer adverse reactions. Yay! But if your kid did—or you knew someone who did—you’d likely hesitate.

You could make the same argument for:

tylenol - I might get liver problems if I take it, therefore I won't
Advil- I might get an ulcer and bleed and maybe die, therefore I won't
Antibiotics - I might get diarrhea, or stomach pain and dehydrated and end up in the hospital, therefore I won't

Yes, all of this might make one pause. So tired of anti-vaxxers coming up with reasons not to do something.

Yeah I don’t take any of that crap. I probably haven’t taken one of those in 15yrs. Tylenol Advil and I’ve only had to take antibiotics in a really acute scenario. OTC meds are no joke. And antibiotics destroy your microbiome and it takes a while to build and diversify again. Not sure why more consumers don’t realize this. I’ll try every other remedy before I give myself or kids the meds you listed above.

Why are you tired of it? Why do you get outraged? It’s weird the reaction you have

Because people die.

A play boy bunny led a media campaign against vaccines and a lot of people died:

And it’s not always those who choose not to be vaccinated—the immuno-comprised, babies too young for vaccinations.

Don't want a whole debate but just have read so many studies (legit scientific ones) about the long term efficacy not being there and no long term research on fertility issues. I'm more hesitant to give it to my son - but open to all thoughts

Op, if you’re not a troll, please tell us what the “legit” studies you read.

In follow, please remember that no one study is the end-all and be-all. For anything important, there is an ongoing discussion in the literature -- commentary, letters, related studies, discussions in articles that cite that study as part of their separate study presentation.

I see people cite studies here all the time without apparently having looked at the subsequent fomral discussion about it. That's like putting on makeup without ever looking in the mirror.

14-year old - arm only mildly sore.

12-year old- got glassy eyed at dinner and flushed face (2 hours after shot) and says he has a headache. His arm was also much more sore than his older brother.

We just gave 12-year old Tylenol for headache and I’m watching him to see how he’s doing.

I work in vaccine and opted out prior years due to potential side effects (they have gotten every other vaccine on time with zero hesitation from me and get a flu shot every fall). The HPV vaccine gave me pause because there was a lot more out there about potential side effects.

Update: younger one feeling better

Older one feels extremely dizzy today.

I’m so f@cking pissed I didn’t follow my yeti cars on this one.

Doctor f@cking outright lied about side effects they are seeing.

Seriously? Those are known potential side effects of pretty much every vaccine. The whole point is they cause an immune response. Made them feel bad for 25 hours is probably ably better than spreading cancer.

Right? PP and her instincts are just looking for a fight.

In this thread alone there have been links to what posters claimed were “studies” and they were not. So if op can’t link to actual randomized controlled studies, the op is a troll.
