In Wuhan, China, they send people with symptom to a designated hotel, observe them and streamline testing them, it is important to separate them from healthy family members. Here when we say social distancing, it shouldn't be just with people not your immediate family, it is important to distance anyone if you have symptom.

Also regarding to the test, they could just take the test kits recommend by WHO or buy it from other countries, we put our lives on hold and some families really can't afford living like this for a long time, shouldn't the government do their best to get whatever test available? This is not the time for pride, CDC.

And of course, doing the test also help understand the disease.

Wrong. We have a tiny house that is two bedrooms and one bath. Most apartments are larger. Spouse who is sick gets the bedroom. Simple.

I get that you're worried but knowing or not knowing doesn't change what you should do, as getting positive results won't automatically get you a hospital bed.

If you really need a test call small emergency rooms (like an urgent care). I am not in DC but went to a small one and they told me they had 20 tests so they had to use very sparingly. Although I fit the symptoms because I did not travel outside of the country, they didn't test me. I thought I might have the flu and was tested for that.

They first off, didn't know what they were dealing with at first. Secondly, their citizens are apparently not in good health (smoking and bad pollution) and, finally, at least one disabled teen was left to die alone in an apartment and toddlers were left alone to fend for themselves when their caregivers were quarantined away in a hospital. Plus, I have read on this thread were the Chinese people were literally shooting their citizens for daring to come out of their homes. That is horrific.

By comparison, Trump has made some good calls which have limited the damage in our country. We appear to faring much better than other parts of the world and we should be grateful for that. I think that as long as our local leaders behave responsibly and with sound judgement we will get through this ordeal and we will recover economically from it.

I am glad that Trump has done the right thing and resisted the pressure to over react in a heavy handed and damaging way. I know it's early to call it and that viruses can be unpredictable but...this really does not seem to be as bad as initially feared.

I live in Florida - land of the cruise ships, theme parks, beaches, major tourist destination and we have had 5 deaths from this virus so far which is terrible but it's not the catastrophic numbers that one might expect given the situation. I am really hoping and praying that things will return to normal soon.

Also, scientists have calculated the death rate in Wuhan to be 1.4%. That is way lower than originally projected and I believe there is reason to be optimistic that it will be way lower than that in the U.S.

We had the benefit of being able to learn from Wuhan's experience. The rest of China did. Other country's did. We had the benefit of being able to learn from Italy. Instead he foolishly reassured the nation that it was nothing and behind the scenes did nothing. He continues to falsely reassure the nation that everything is under "tremendous control" when his own people are trying to get out the message that it is not. Trump has done everything as badly as he possibly could have and we will many more fatalities than we could have BECAUSE OF HIM.

I might very well be wrong. It just doesn't make much sense to me how a husband can contract this virus and his wife who has been around him and breathing the same air comes up negative - like with Idris Elba and his wife.

Also, last I saw, Florida has tested over 1000 people and over 800 of those tests came back negative. For such a contagious disease it sure doesn't seem that contagious based on those tests.

Either there are false negatives, people have some sort of natural immunity to it here or it isn't as contagious as once thought. Maybe it's just not spread as easily in this country for some reason?

All the more reason we need tests. We don’t know how to handle it, because we don’t know what “it” is.

Let's say FL has tested 1500 people. That is outrageous. That is 0.007 percent of their population.

It's as if FL has done zero tests.

I think that doctors have been given the go ahead to test at their discretion in Florida. That doesn't mean that every random patient with the sniffles gets a test but if a doctor, in their professional judgement, feels that the test is warranted, they can order a test.

I would imagine that a good many of the tests were given to people with known contacts to those positive for the virus. I simply found the number of negative results to be interesting.

Why do you think Florida has more tests than any other state? Someone in this thread said yesterday one of the major hospitals in Virginia had ZERO tests...

I think I’d be s lot safer in Shanghai right now from this virus than anywhere in the US.
